Hi I'm Jon

Native Chicagoan, husband, father, Mormon.

About Me

Besides trying to live up to the teachings of the Savior, the following experiences/aspects of my life explain a lot about me as well as the way I see the world: 1. Having a mother and father, as well as siblings, who love me. 2. Being a twin. 3. Growing up in the inner city of Chicago. 4. Making unlikely friends. 5. Sharing the gospel message with others. 6. Becoming fluent in the German language. 7. Getting married, and trying to live up to it. 8. Becoming a father, and trying to live up to it. 9. Attending law school.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always had a deep sense of peace in my life, and attribute it to my relationship with my Father in Heaven. The teachings of the Mormon Church have helped me develop my relationship with Heavenly Father, and learn about repenting or correcting my mistakes more completely, which strengthens my relationships with those I love. I suppose that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Generally, I think about what it means to be a Christian, what it would look like, and I try to live accordingly. In practice, behaving like a Christian for me involves saying prayers, saying thank you, apologizing, attending church meetings, reaching out to others in Church and outside of Church, paying tithing and giving offerings, trying to help my family feel happy, and trying to be a good listener.

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Jon
Our church does not endorse any political party. It has said: "Principles compatible with the gospel are found in the platforms of all major political parties." Many Mormons grow up in Republican states and are republicans. I grew up in Chicago and am a democrat. I think that Mormons, much like everyone, are very likely to identify with the dominant political views of their community. Show more Show less

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Jon
I think the church continues to grow so quickly because 1- the teachings of the Church resonate with people deep inside and add to their understanding of our Father in Heaven, regardless of previous experiences. 2- The Church asks people to serve. Service enables an individual to develop a stronger relationship with Heavenly Father, with fellowmen and with self. 3- The Church tries to look after its members. We are social in the Church and become friends. People like that. Show more Show less
