Hi I'm Darin Hassell

I'm Okie from Oklahoma, that is. I'm a financial aid professional. I laugh A LOT. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am Oklahoma born and bred. I am a husband, father, and grandfather of such a beautiful, wonderful family, and I am the comedy relief for the whole group. I work hard, and I work hard at serving others and making people laugh. Sometimes I am kind of a weenie. I represent my gender very well when it comes to teasing the grandchildren! I love all things higher education, and I have enjoyed both getting a graduate degree and helping others attain that goal.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were converts to the church before I was born, which means I was born into the church but barely. That doesn't have any bearing on why I am still a Mormon. It has been the simple things throughout the years that have cemented my personal religious beliefs, which are extremely sweet to me. I have accepted opportunities to serve in many positions at local congregations where this service has let me appreciate and uplift others. I have been of benefit to my family by teaching and living what has been taught. Every aspect of Church membership has been a personal, touching, uplifting, magnetic experience that has been personally gratifying!

How I live my faith

I have done so many things on the local level, such as teach classes, perform clerical duties, cook food, give talks, and work in leadership roles. My most favorite is serving in the temple. The temple is not the average community meetinghouse; it is a solemn place where those members who have kept the commandments go to make promises with the Lord to continue to keep His commandments, such as what we do when we take the sacrament or communion on Sundays. The temple is also where we perform in person the same baptisms for those who have died, believing they have the opportunity to accept these baptisms and be redeemed. Communion is such a wonderful word in this regard, for we go to commune with the Lord when we visit the temple.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Darin Hassell
Only those members of the Church who visit with their local authorities and state that they are living the gosple and keeping the commandments can enter into the temple. There is nothing secret about the temple; only sacred. We make serious, eternal, life-changing promises to keep the commandments of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, promises that last beyond the grave. These promises require a level of committment, much like being a good husband or father require long-term committments. Our lives change for the better when we commit to following the Lord through the promises we make inside the temple. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Darin Hassell
I love my wife very much, and I love the family that we have built together and been a part of. We believe in the husband and wife relationship and the family being eternal, without end. It is more than what is seen in the world today; a loving father and husband who loves and serves his wife and family with their physical and spiritual needs, married to a mother and wife who is just as committed. We have temple marriages, where we believe the authority and power of God are used to marry husbands and wives, to join together parents and children in the family bond for all time. These were and are considerations I made when I married and continue to make as a father and grandfather, to keep my level of committment to my beautiful wife and family extremely high. I remember that I will be a husband and father long after I die and that my responsibility is to teach my family, alongside my wife, in the ways of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to remain always an eternal family. How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Darin Hassell
To me, it is simple; I will love my wife, my daughters, my mother, my sister, and all those who are within my family and circle of friends with all of my heart, might, mind, and strength. The spread and influence of pornography is from the intense over-focus on only the physical aspects of those around me; it is not a true representation of the emotional and psychological bonds that comes from respect, friendship, bonding, sharing, caring, serving, sacrificing, and being with the women in my life. Starting with my wife, I am her husband and I am hers alone. From her and from my mother, I learn to treat women respectfully and gracefully. There is more offered than just a physical aspect that is horribly askew and warped for no reason. Show more Show less
