Hi I'm Cheri

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 53 yr old convert. I am about 10 months into my first year. I very much enjoy music & dogs. I am a mom of a 22 yr old who should be graduating this year. I am a veteran of the US Navy, and have worked many ecclectic jobs. My missionaries provide me with many projects to keep me learning the Gospel. The most exciting thing lately was a trip to the Chicago Temple. I can't wait to go back. Something I don't always share is I have several mental illnesses. They all come together in one package. It does cause me trouble in my day to day living. I'm a very different person than I was a very long time ago. But, on the upside the church has made my life easier, at least when I'm there. My calling is perfect for me, it's a talent I have and has bolstered my self esteem. I receive help when I need it. The church hasen't been discrimatory towards me, in fact it is the total opposite. I'm just like everyone else. And everyone needs help sometime.

Why I am a Mormon

I was looking for a church after a long lapse. I tried several assorted churchs and the church I was in as a kid. The only one to answer me was The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As I investigated more I knew this was the place for me. Blessings were given and a prayer was answered after asking God for help with my decision. The church has come to my rescue , the church members have been friendly and helpful. It is a place for me to learn and grow and spend my Eternal Life with Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church every Sunday. I have received my calling and am a visiting teacher. I go to other womens homes and discuss the Bible and enjoy each others company. I very much like to help out with serving at the church gatherings for kids, missionaries and local groups. I really like to talk to my friends and neighbors about what I'm learning, and share the Gospel as I learn it. Praying is big with me. It provideds comfort, help, knowledge about what I'm doing or going to do. It keeps God, His Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost close to me. I know that I am never alone.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Cheri
I dress up in Sunday Best to show respect to God. It keeps me focused on why I'm there. We are a modest people. I go with a skirt below the knee and hopefully a matching top. I don't wear tops that bear my shoulders or with plummeting neck lines. I feel comfortable and know that I'm pleasing God by being modest and respectful. I'm live in the U.S. so I celebrate the same holidays as most other Americans do. Christmas and Easter are especially important to me. The birth of Christ is a quiet holy day to reflect on Christ. Easter is just as important, knowing what Christ did and gave for me -little 'ole me- The strength He had to follow His Father's commamdant to the end. Then being Reserected to show that He has power over death, just as we do. Show more Show less
