Hi I'm Devin

I grew up in Southern California and im just an average joe, but I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Well I'm currently a college student attending BYU-Idaho. I served a full time mission for the Church from 2008-2010 in Sao Paulo Brazil and it was the best experience of my life. It showed me why I'm on this earth...it gave me purpose. I love just living life. I LOVE the outdoors and playing sports like soccer and basketball. Anything with a board or an engine interests me. Growing up in Southern California, I was sucked into the stereotypical California culture of Skateboarding and Surfing and so on, but I didn't want to be a part of the low standards that are many times associated with extreme sports so I looked for ways to do these things with out being influenced by those around me. To this day I love the feel of gravel beneath my wheels, or the smell of salt water as I wait for the next wave to come. I'm obsessed with cars and going fast, I dream of one day racing cars as a hobby. I also love to play the guitar and sing, and even though I'm not very good at it, I love performing in front of others. Besides these things I try my best to stay close to my Heavenly Father, and my savior because I know they they are the only true source of happiness.

Why I am a Mormon

Like many members of the church in the United Stated i was born into the church. My family comes from a long line of members on both sides dating all the way back to the pioneers. As a child I believed much of what I heard and was told by my parents, and i do remember specific spiritual experiences in my life as an early child that proved to me of the truth of the gospel, but as I grew into my teenage years I started to question like many. I came to a point where i needed to find out for my own whether or not the church was true, and through a few very personal experiences I found this testimony of truth for my own. As the years passed, however, I feel like I distanced myself from the Lord in many ways through a lot of poor decisions. My testimony was always there and it is what lead me to want to serve the Lord as a missionary, but I didn't truly find out how important being a Mormon was to me until I sacrificed my time to be a full time missionary. As a missionary i was forced to rely on the Lord completely and found that the only way to truly rely on him was through constant spiritual nourishment. As I read daily from the scriptures and especially The Book of Mormon I came to know of the truthfulness of this Gospel and this Church. I know now that we have a perfect Heavenly Father who sent us here out of  love for each and every one of us and sent his son for us. I know now that we have a Savior who suffered everything and gave his life for us. And i know that The Book of Mormon is the word of God, I know because it has changed my life. Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that cant be debated by one who truly seeks for truth from the Book of Mormon. I am so grateful to be a part of this church and to know that God still loves his children today, enough to call prophets and apostles so that we can be lead through this dark and dreary world. Despite trials and tribulations, my love for God and my faith in him is what gets me through...this is why I am a Mormon

How I live my faith

I look for ways everyday to serve the Lord. Whether its something large or something as simple as a smile or opening the door for someone, i strive to serve others. I attend college at a school run by the church where almost 100 of the students are members, so it is tough to really serve in my community or things like that, but i look to be an example in simple ways by loving others and living by the standards best i can while still showing people that you dont have to be weird or nerdy to do what is right. I help in my ward by organizing activities to help involve people more and create friendships so that others have someone to rely on. The gospel isnt about being a freak or becoming obsessed with it, we dont have to be socially awkward or different to live the gospel of Jesus Christ, and that is what i want to show people. We just have to live the commandments and seek to do what is right.
