Hi I'm Jim Burch

I grew up in the deep south of Louisiana. I served in the United States Air Force. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in the deep south most of my life. After I joined the U.S. Air Force I met my wife and started a family. We have been married for 23 years and have 7 children. I work for Delta Airlines as a ramp agent here in Vancouver Washington where we have been for about 15 years. I love reading, camping, fishing, spending time with my children (3girls and 4 boys). Our household is and extremely busy one but our family is close and we always have time for each other.

Why I am a Mormon

I was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by my wife, who at the time was my girlfriend. I have always had questions about who I am and where did I come from, at least as far as being created of God was concerned. I figured God gave me these questions to help me find my path. I checked with many other religions ( I was raised southern baptist) for the answers but no-one could answer them. I stopped looking and gave up for about 10 years until I met my wife who invited me to go to church with her. We had been dating for about two years in which time she had been an inactive member of the Church. She decided to start going back to church again and on one morning I drove to Michigan to see her. She told me she was going to church and if I wanted to spend any time with her then I had better go with her, my time was very limited since I had to drive back to Nebraska to go to work. She then informed me she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I had my own misconceptions about what Mormons were but because I was in love I decided to go. On that particular Sunday the regular Sunday School teacher was sick so the missionaries taught the lesson. The one they chose to teach was about the pre-existance which explains exactly where we came from and what our purpose is here on Earth. Imagine my surprise when after 15 years of looking and waiting my answer was given. Immediately I knew I had found God's church.

How I live my faith

I have a calling as a youth teacher in Sunday School. The ages my wife and I teach are twelve to thirteen year olds. I enjoy talking with these young people because they really ask many thought provoking questions which help me learn my own gospel better. In our home we have scripture study every morning and evening. This is a great time to talk with our children and make sure they are at least hearing something positive and spiritual based before sending them out into the world. We worship as a family. We have the same arguments and strugles as other families but at least with the gospel in our home these situations can be resolved much better.
