Hi I'm Alisha

I am a writer, a university instructor, a singer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Life never turns out the way you expect it to. Growing up I knew I always wanted to be a mom. I also wanted to be an English teacher and a writer. I always expected that I would go to school, serve a mission for my church, get my degree, marry and have lots of kids.  Oh how differently it turned out. I did go to school, but the health problems I have always had prevented me from graduating as fast as I wanted to. They also prevented me from serving a mission. I got my degree. And then another one. I began teaching college writing. I started writing books. Suddenly I was thirty and still single.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints holds the keys that unlock our understanding of who we are and why we are here. We are beloved sons and daughters of God with purpose and meaning in our lives. As we strive to live with faith our Heavenly Father helps us to know our divine nature and destiny. We are not alone. We are organized into families. In the restored gospel families don't just end when life does. We can be together forever, learning and helping and growing together. Through faith we live our lives with hope for something better. When we make mistakes we can go to a loving Father and repent through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ our Savior and elder brother. He suffered for the sins of each one of us, thus He is a very personal Savior. Not only did He die, but He was resurrected. Because of Him we are saved from physical death and through obedience to Him we are saved from spiritual death. Through the principles and ordinances of the gospel like baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost through the laying on of hands by those in authority, and being sealed as families for eternity in the temple we find peace in this life and joy in the next. To help us on our way we are giving prophets, men called by God to lead His church on the earth. President Thomas S. Monson is the current prophet. I believe that the words he speaks are from God. We are also given the words of the scriptures. As Mormons we believe The Book of Mormon to be the word of God and the Bible as far as it is translated correctly. Both are testaments of the life and mission of Jesus Christ. In their words we find guidance and warning, directions for this life and the next.

How I live my faith

In a family oriented church it might seem hard to be a single adult. But the Lord knows and understands the challenges I face. He has given me many opportunities to share my testimony as a teacher in Sunday School and in classes dedicated to our youth and women. I also know that I shouldn't define myself by what I am not. Though I may not be married or a mother I can nurture and help all those around me. My conviction of the truth of the gospel naturally leads me to be concerned with the welfare and happiness of others. We believe that we are all brothers and sisters of the gospel. We are a family and should take care of each other. I have felt the joy and love of being involved in organizations that help people to know who they are and who they are meant to be. I am assigned particularly to three women in my ward. As a visiting teacher I go with my roommate to visit these amazing young women at least once a month if not more. We are their friends. We love them. We watch out for them. We all bless each other. I in turn am visited by two neighbors. I have been truly blessed by the experiences of these women. They have helped me when I am sick, made me laugh when I am sad, and rejoiced with me when good things happen.
