Hi I'm Tom

I love motorcycles, sports, movies and people and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm from the west coast. I enjoy riding motorcycles and playing sports-not watching them, camping, shooting guns, and working on cars. I am currently serving a mission and am planning on going to college when I get back. I plan on going to school for business and either starting my own in contracting, or running my dad's businesses. I enjoy building things and fixing things. I love the Gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

Well I was born a Mormon. But I have found out for myself that this is the one and only true Church on the Earth. I am currently serving a mission and have seen people's lives flip 180's and change for the better. I know that only the true Gospel of Jesus Christ can do that.

How I live my faith

I am currently living my faith literally because im am serving a mission. So everyday is centered on Christ as it should be. Back home before my mission I lived my faith by attending church regularly and participating in church activities. It is much easier to live my faith when I am around other people who also live it.

How can I find someone to talk with, in person, about the Mormon religion?

On this site you can request missionaries to come and share a message about Jesus Christ. We missionaries are normal people who devote 2 years of our life to come share the Gosple with people. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

We dress in our best clothes for sunday. We dress how we would dress if we were going to be meeting Jesus Christ. And since the Chuches are His houses we should dress accordingly. This doesn't mean you have to wear a suit to church. Just your best clothes that you have. We would rather you show up in worn out clothes that not have you there at all. We celibrate the national holidays. Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July. etc Show more Show less

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Because God commanded us too. There are diffrent examples from the scriptures that say not to practice plural marriage unless the Lord says otherwise. Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Jesus set up His Church the way He wanted it. The only reason there wasn't apostles between then and when the Church was restored is because they were all killed. When Judas killed himself they called a new apostle. And Paul wasn't one of the original 12. He was called to be an apostle later. They all just got killed before they could call any new ones. How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Jesus warned us about pornography while He was giving his sermon on the mount. " But yea have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matt.5. 27-28 The best thing we can do to stop this diesese that is spreading rapidly is to stay away from it completly. Treat it as you would any other diesese. Protect your children from it and protect your families from it. Think of the story of King David. He was a Prophet-King. He was a spritual giant. His fall started by looking at Bathsheba. Just looking. Which then lead to other sins and ultimently his downfall. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is staying away from any substance that is harmful to the body. Tea, coffie, alcohol, tobbaco and any other illegal drugs or anything that is addicting to the body. This is not a new concept. The very first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve was a form of the Word of Wisdom. He said do not partake of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Why? because they would die if they did. Another example is the story of Daniel and his companions. They refused to partake of the King's wine and meat. They ended up being heathy and wiser then all of the others. This Word of Wisdom was given through revelation to the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1833. 178 years ago. Now modern day doctors have discovered that tobbaco is bad for you because it causes cancer. Alcohol ruins your liver. Tea and coffie have acid in them that are bad for your body and other drugs ruin peoples lives. Moses had a very strict word of wisdom and he lived to be 120 years old. Go figure.... What is faith?

"And now as I said concerning faith-- faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." Alma 32. 21 Like it says in Alma, having a perfect knowledge is not faith. Why would anyone need to have faith if they had a perfect knowledge that they knew God was real? If they saw Him then they would know perfectly that He was. People now days seem to all say the same thing. I would believe if I saw Him or had some physical evidence. Why does that ring a bell? "But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the prints of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe........ Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side..... And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." John 20.24-29 "Blessed are they that have not seen"----"If ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen." Just one example of how the Bible and the Book of Mormon work together.   Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A Testimony is a witness or and account of something that you know to be true. An example is in court the witnesses give there testimony of what they know is true. So having a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to be a witness of it.  Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

We believe that grace is a divine help that is possible because of our Savior Jesus Christ. The grace of Jesus Christ is the only way that we can live with our Father in Heaven again. But just because we have grace doesn't mean we can do anything we want and still be saved. We must prove ourselfs by doing the best we can by keeping the commandments. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

We baptize for the dead because baptism is necessary to enter into the Kingdom of God. So what happens to the people who lived and died and never even knew they needed to be baptized? God is no respecter of persons. He will give all of His children a chance to choose to be baptized. But in order to be baptized a body is necessary. So we act as proxies to be baptized for them. "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?" 1 Cor. 15.29 Well we know that the dead do rise again thanks to Jesus' sarifice. So therefore it is necessary for the dead to be baptized.  Acting as a proxy is not a new thing. Jesus Himself acted as a proxy for us as He suffered for our sins. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

It is a term that people came up with because of the Book of Mormon. It was used as a insulting remark for early members of the Church. Just like in bible times people would use Christian as an insult. But now people like to be called Christian. Mormon is the one who compiled the records together into one book. So it was named after him. We only worship Jesus Christ. So the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the proper name for our Church. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

An Orange for example. It's the perfect gift. It's pre-wrapped and already cut into slices for you. Why else would people give eachother fruit for Christmas? Everything in this world proves that there is a God. The odds of this world and everything in it being created randomly is about as good of odds as throwing a bunch of letters into a bag and shaking it up and dumping it out and them forming a dictionary. Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

Lets use an example. Say that you are driving and you run a stop sign. And an ice cream man sees you and pulls you over. He comes to your window and wants to see your licence and registration. He writes you a ticket. Are you going to pay it?? No. He has no authority to give you a ticket. Now say a police officer pulled you over and writes you a ticket. That you would have to pay because he has the authority to give you a ticket. Same thing applys with baptism. The person baptizing you needs to have the authority to do so or it means nothing. The authority to act in God's name comes from God. Not from any authority of man.  Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about “eternal life?”

Eternal life is the ability to become like God. If you study the word Eternal it means God, literally. He is called the Eternal One. So by replacing Eternal with God it means God Life. Romans 8. 17 "And if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ if it so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."  Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Yes. With the wonderful blessing that come from being married in the Temple. Families are very important to Heavenly Father. Marriage is intended to last after this life. In the typical civil marriage cerimony it is said "till death do you part" or "as long as you both shall live" In a temple marriage we are married for time and all eternity. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

This is the law of tithing. The Lord askes us to give 10 of what we have to help build the Kingdom and to help people who need it. The blessings that come from paying tithing far exceed that of what we pay. The prophet Malachi says in Malachi 3 8-10 "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Abraham the Prophet payed his tithing to Melchisedec. In Hebrews 71-2. " For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him To whom Abraham gave a tenth part of all first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and agter that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace. Are Mormons Christians?

YES. We are the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church and he is the saviour of the body." Eph 5. 23 It says right there that Christ has to be the head of the true church. Show more Show less

Are there restrictions based on race or color concerning who can join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have the priesthood?

No there is not. Anyone can become a member as long as they are willing to keep the commandments. There was a time where there was restrictions. But that was God's desision. An example from the Bible of a restriction was when the apostles were told not to teach in Asia yet. But then they were told to go to Asia later. Show more Show less

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

The Lord set up a way to choose the Prophet when He was on the earth. When Jesus was crucified the Senior Apostle who was Peter became head of the Church or the Prophet. So it is now. When the Prophet dies the Senior Apostle becomes the next Prophet and another Apostle is called to take his place. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Just as in the biblical times, only certain people are allowed to enter the Lord's house. Any member of the Church has an opportunity to enter the Temple as long as they are worthy and are living the standards of the Church. The things that happen in the Temple aren't secret, but sacred. We have the opportunity to do ordinance work for the deceased. In 1 Corinthians 1529 it talks about being baptized for the dead. Baptism is an ordinance that is essential for salvation. In order to be baptized a body is required. So we are able to use our body to be baptized via proxy for the dead. We also have the great opportunity to be sealed to our families. In Malachi 45-6 it says that before the last day the Lord will send Elijah the prophet. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers. This means he will restore the priesthood keys to perform sealings to our familys. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

We are not supposed to be paid for our service in the Church. There is a story in Acts 8 17-20. "Then laid their hands on them, and they recieved the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money." The people that are called to serve in the Church arn't called by men. They are called of God through men. God doesn't pay His servants with money. He will bless them though for their service. What do Mormons believe about "eternal life?"

To explain eternal life we have to analize the word eternal. Eternal One is one of the names of God the Father. So if you subsitute God in for Eternal it becomes God Life. We can live with God and be like him. Joint-heirs with Christ. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Knowledge for one. Any knowledge obtained in this life will be an advantage for that person in the life to come. We can grow closer to our Savior by learning about His life and ministry from the Bible. We can gain a stronger testimony of the Gosple of Jesus Christ as we come to find out that all the peices fit. Everything that is taught in the scriptures is true. We can also become better teachers. We can share the message of the Gosple with everyone. Show more Show less
