Hi I'm Dave

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in New Mexico and I love the Southwest.  I decided to serve a full time mission for the church when I was 19 and went to the Netherlands for two years. Since then I have gone to college and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am currently working on a Master's degree. I got married when I was 22 years old and still in school. I love my wife and a few years later we decided to have our first child before I had finished my Bachelor's degree. While being a parent as young as I am is unusual among my peers it is one of the greatest blessings in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I had very good parents growing up who taught me the importance of work and faith. In the book of John the Lord said "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." I followed in the example of my parents and knew that what I was doing was right. It was not, however, until later in my life that I truly witnessed God for myself. It was so simple. I had a burning question that I wanted an answer to. It seems to be a pattern regardless of what the question is, If we have a strong enough desire God will hear us and give us an answer. After about a month or so I decided that I would kneel down and ask God myself. I told him that I would read in the Book of Mormon until I knew the answer. I felt something that I had never felt before and that I can only explain as an incredible feeling of clarity and understanding. I knew what God wanted me to do and I knew it was his message to me. While that is not the sole event defining my faith, it was one of the greatest witnesses I have received that God lives and that he loves all of us more than we know.

How I live my faith

Since I am a student, I do a lot of the same things other students do. I go to class, do homework, do work that pays the bills, and so on. One way my faith has really changed my life is having a family.  I would not likely have been married so young had I not known that family is central to the purpose of this life. I would most certainly not have had a child while still in school. There came a point where both me and my wife felt that having a child was what God wanted us to do. In this way my faith has completely changed my life. I don't go home just to play video games or go to parties like many of my peers do. Instead I go home to my family. Aside from family I am very active in the church. I go to church every Sunday at 7am to help prepare the church services. Sunday is the most relaxing day of the week.

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Dave
No. The church teaches that you should uphold virtuous and honest principles. This means that every member of the church is encouraged to be active in the political process and make choices that follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.   Show more Show less
