Hi I'm Susan

I'm a mother who loves music, learning, poetry, cooking, writing, and photography. I dance to myself. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of four, and raising them is my primary occupation. I started motherhood immediately after finishing my masters degree in English, and while I imagined I would teach or write or do something noteworthy and intriguing in my field, I found immediately that nurturing my family was the most important and time-consuming thing I could do. I have missed some years of paying employment, but I don't think I have missed any experiences more interesting and compelling than those I have had engaging with my children and husband in the particulate matter of their lives. Now that we all are getting older, I feel ready to synthesize some of what I've learned and spend more time in creative and intellectually challenging endeavors. But I still think that ushering human beings through their formative years, teaching them, learning from them, and understanding life from this perspective have provided the best job experience and continuing education I could ask for.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon by heritge and by conviction. I am proud to own the men and women who sacrificed to join with the Saints in their efforts to build Zion from what little they had. I am also grateful for parents who shared with me their beliefs and helped me develop mine. Nevertheless, I am able to say that my faith has grown out of my own private experiences. I have felt the reality of God, of His love for me, of the need for and amazing provision of a Savior of the world, as I have studied and prayed and tried to understand this life. I feel God's love working through the church and its leaders and members, and I have seen the gospel transform lives. If I can experience and become what I think living this gospel will help me to experience and become, I believe I will have had a life well-lived.

How I live my faith

My aim is to live joyfully and lovingly. I feel joy as I see God's love in everything beautiful about the world and the people in it. I try to listen closely to hear and follow God's direction so that ultimately I will have filled as much of my purpose as possible. I try to understand and know everything I possibly can, increasing my appreciation of life as I try to make sense of its amazing complexity. I try to have faith despite all that is hard and bad in the world. I want to help others to feel this love and joy as well.
