Hi I'm John

I am a husband, a father, a teacher, a Network Administrator, an avid backpacker, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, a father of 5 children, and the grandfather of 2 children. I am employed as a high school science/math teacher and network administrator. I enjoy being with my family, especially when we are backpacking in the mountains of the western USA. In the mountains we are free from the complexities of modern life and spend time together talking, hiking, fishing, and enjoying God's creation.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 34 years old a colleague invited me to read the Book of Mormon. I accepted the invitation. As I read the Book of Mormon, I found many truths. As I found truths, I would look in the Bible to see if I could find the same truths and I did. I continued this process and began to meet with the missionaries. As we met I would ask them questions and we would all spend time searching in the Bible and Book of Mormon for answers. I also attended services and other meetings at the local congregation of Latter-day Saints in our area. After attending for a few months I realized that not only did the Mormons teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but they also taught me how to live it and more importantly they support each other to live the principles that are taught. I learned how to make the Gospel part of my life and how it was an agent for change that helped me to draw closer to God. Now I know that as I continue to study the scriptures and learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and pray to ask God to help me change, to live the principles of the Gospel more fully in my life, that in time He has changed me. I know that God desires us to become more like him and has the power to change our nature and character to be more like His. These changes come a little at a time, but they do come.

How I live my faith

I strive to live my faith each day by starting each day with prayer and scripture study. I feel a great peace as I pray and study. I strive each day to be available to help people. I strive to help people in all aspects of my life. In my family, at work, and in the community. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, spent his ministry helping people and my desire is to emulate him by serving others too. I also have responsibilities as a leader in our local congregation, which is called a ward. I spend time with other leaders planning activities and discussing ways to help other people to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ more fully. I also have an opportunity to listen to others as they have struggles in life and when appropriate, give council and direction. I try each day to be more patient, more kind, more helpful, and more sincere than I was the day before.
