Hi I'm Devin

I'm a rock climbing, ballroom dancing, outdoors loving college student and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

If I ever have any free time you'll find me either up the nearest rock wall or dancing the night away with some of my friends. I'm one of those people that is always on the go, I can't stand to sit around and do nothing. I first got started climbing for that exact reason. When I was 14 I was on vacation with my family; I got bored and was looking for something fun to do when my dad suggested trying rock climbing. We went to a climbing gym down the road and I haven't looked back since! From then on I wanted to do anything and everything to do with climbing, and I got lucky. In high school I got my dream job and not only got to work at a rock wall but got to be a rock climbing instructor for several years. While I was busy climbing everything in sight I was also dragged (almost literally) into ballroom dancing. My parents have been the directors of a church ballroom dance team for almost as long as I can remember. After having sat through countless practices as a little kid I swore that I would never dance when I got older...oh how I was wrong. After my parents guilt tripped me into going for the first few times I decided that it was pretty fun and that it was a good way to get to know a lot of girls. After a while I started to get into more than just strict social dancing and when I went to college I turned into a dancing maniac. Now I'm on a mission for the church in British Columbia and it's the best decision I've ever made.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I was born into the church I never really believed it for myself until I was in High School. After a few crazy things happened to me and some of my friends started to ask questions about the church, some of those questions were tough questions too, I decided that I needed to find out if it was true for myself. Even though I never payed that much attention in church or when my parents tried to teach me about it I knew enough to know that the way to find out if the church was true was to read the Book of Mormon and then to ask God. That's exactly what I did. I started to read the Book of Mormon every night and at first it was hard, I would only get though a page or a chapter if I was lucky. I really didn't understand it that much at first but by the time I was done I was reading for at least a half hour or more every night. Some nights I would stay up for hours reading because I simply couldn't get enough of it. After I finished the Book of Mormon I jumped into the bible and started reading through it as fast as I could and when I asked God the answer came as clear as day, he was there for me and he wanted me to know that the church was true. I started to take church and seminary, its a religious class the church has that you can take while you're in high school, seriously and the windows of heaven opened up on me. In a few short months I learned more about God than I had in the rest of my life combined. When I went to college I took some religion classes that blew my mind away and just confirmed to me more than ever that God is there and that he cares for each and every single one of us. I'm a Mormon because I read the Book of Mormon and asked God if it was true. God is a lot smarter than all of us so when he speaks that's the end of it.

How I live my faith

Just because I knew that the church was true didn't make it so that I was (or am for that matter) perfect by any means. Because of how I acted one day a good friend of mine asked me if I really believed the church was true. That one question changed my life for good, it was at that moment that I realized that I needed to not only believe in my faith but I needed to live it too. I decided right then and there that I wanted to do everything that I could to show by word and deed that I had changed and that I believed that the church was true. I started by making sure that I was reading my scriptures everyday and having a personal prayer every morning and night. I also started to think seriously about serving a mission. When I went to college I did everything I could to learn as much as I could about the scriptures to prepare myself for my mission. I am now on that Mission and I can't even imagine what life would have been like for me with out it. Taking two years out of my life to teach people about the savior has been the most rewarding thing that I have ever done in my life. Once you find out that you have a gift from God as great as the Gospel of Jesus Christ it is impossible to keep it to yourself.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a collection of writings of ancient prophets just like the Bible. The prophets in the Book of Mormon testify of Jesus Christ and his gospel as do the prophets in the Bible. The real difference between them is really just where the Prophets in the Book of Mormon lived they lived on the American continent. It is called the Book of Mormon after one of the last of these prophets who put the writings together before he gave it to his son Moroni who finished writing it. Show more Show less
