I am have served a 2 year mission in Quebec for the church, and am in University Studying Electrical Engineering.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in this church, and grew up in a strong Mormon family. But that is not why I am still in this church. The main reason I have stayed in in this Church is because of the joy and peace it has brought to me, and my family. Being the 7th of 8 children, it is not easy to stay close with many of my older siblings. The oldest is 14 years older than me, and so as I was growing up, my siblings were leaving the house one by one. But because my parents based our family on Christs teachings, and knowing that we can be together forever, we take the time to get together, and it has blessed my life beyond measure. When I was 17, I began to wonder if this was really the path for me. Before then, the church was something that I had mostly just lived, because it had been an integral part of my life growing up. But I began to question the importance of some teachings, and why they were so necessary. But I had parents that taught me that if anything could help me, it was prayer, and reading the scriptures. Even if I didnt do them very often at times, I could always feel a strength in my life when I did them, and so, when I began to have some trials in my life, and began to doubt, I turned to what I knew could work. I began to read my scriptures, particularly the Book of Mormon, where I had found answers before. I prayed to my Heavenly Father, to give me strength, and to know which way to go, and as I had so many times before as I was growing up, and I found the answer. It was there everytime I read, everytime I prayed. I felt peace, and comfort. I felt strength, and the things in my life fell into place. I knew that what I asked, and the life I had chosen, was what God wanted. I am Mormon, not because it is easy, but because God gave me the witness that this was his path, and that I know it blesses me, and my family, and will continue to do so forever. I am Mormon, because it is how I find the most happiness in what I do.

How I live my faith

The way that I live my faith is firstly taking what I learn at church, and in my personal study, and applying it in my life. For me, being Mormon is not something that I can do without being engaged in trying to become a better person, by helping lift up those around me and seeing to their needs. I learned that as I took an active role in the leadership of Youth Organisations in the Church when I was called upon, and saw the good that we could do just by saying hi to someone who I knew was having a hard time, by being their friend, and serving them. I saw the joy it brought when I would go visit a several families from the Church every month with my father and talked with them, and did what service that we could to help them out. I see daily how helping others, and truly living Christ`s example of loving your neighbor as yourself, helps you to improve. When I am asked to serve in the Church, I do not try to find an escape from what has been asked, but I look for what I can do for others while I do what has been asked of me. I chose to serve a 2 year mission, and after saving up enough money for it, I was sent to Quebec, Canada, where I am learning daily how much Christ loves us, and how I can help express that love to others. Living my faith, means not focusing on myself, but others, and most importantly, Christ. When I find ways to remember him throughout the day, I remember what he did for me, and for every other person around me. How I live my faith, is through trying to follow Christ`s example.
