Hi I'm Sonya

I'm a daughter, I'm full of love, and I'm a Latter Day Saint.

About Me

I'm from a small town of 500. I am a waitress and a full time student. Sometimes things get hard, but I always have the gospel to fall back on. I have played the guitar for eight years and I love to sing. I try to live my life to the fullest and be a good person that will make a wonderful wife and mother someday.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a convert. I was baptized the 26 of February 2011. I am a Mormon because I have never felt this type of a complete faith in any church before. I felt a happiness that I have never known before. It has blessed my life in so many ways I can't count. Although I am the only member in my family, I now have a wonderful ward family that will do anything for me. I am a Mormon because I love my Heavenly Father and I want to make Him proud of me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday, it is a step by step process. When I follow in the footsteps of my Savior I can feel myself opening up a door to receive bountiful blessings. I haven't been in the church long enough to be called to serve in very great positions, but I did receive a visiting teaching assignment even before I was baptized! I try to serve my brothers and sisters by helping them in any way. Serving others, especially the weak and needy, brings one true happiness. Most of all, I follow the standards of the church and the guidance from Heavenly Father, the Holy Ghost, and from our prophet Thomas S. Monson.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Ask any member, and you will probably get the same answer. If you read from the Book of Mormon and pray to God with a sincere heart and true intent, through the power of the Holy Ghost , it will be revealed unto you. It's sometimes hard to hear the answer, but as you pray you will find yourself FEELING it inside you. As you learn of the church and its principles, you will feel the happiness it brings to your life. Your whole attitude will change and you will feel a light of joy shining out your eyes from the bottom of your heart.  Show more Show less

What is faith?

Faith is hope. Faith is something that is difficult to have. You must pray and feel it inside you. Faith is not knowledge. While I may not have 100 knowledge in things like the plan of salvation, what is going to happen when you die, I do have 100 hope, 100 faith. Believe not because you see not. Faith is something that you gain through the experiences you have with the Holy Ghost, from the blessings you receive in your life, and by the love you gain in your heart when you walk in obedience with the commandments and the gospel. Everyone can have faith, coming from one that has had to work so hard to build my faith. There is nothing better than to have the assurance that my Heavenly Father loves me and has a plan set up for me and my family. I have faith that God knows me He knows everyone of His children, even you, and He wants the best for each of us. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Most people think that Mormons have baptisms for the dead or "proxy" baptisms in order to gain new names in the church. This is completely false. This person's name is being used but they are not entered into the church records. These baptisms give the person that has died the chance to be given the gift of eternal life after the second coming of Christ. It is for people who may not have had the chance to have the fullness of the gospel in their lives or for those who didn't accept it while they were here. We believe that when we are born on to this earth, a metaphoric veil is placed in front of us that makes us forget out spirit lives before we came here. Although you may think that some of your family members would never want you to baptize them after they are dead because of their strong disbelief on earth, when you die that veil is lifted and you see the blessings that you can receive through being a part of our Heavenly Father's church. Holding a baptism for a family member or friend that has passed on is one of the best gifts you can give to them, and no matter what, they always have the choice to accept it or deny it. Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

This may be a new concept for people looking in to the church, but many churches share this same principle. In the Church of Latter-Day Saints, no one is paid, not the bishops, the apostles, or the prophet. This money is used to help build up the church by things like building new temples and printing copies of the Book of Mormon to send to people looking into the church at no charge to them. We give this money willingly and generously because we know the blessings that it will bring to our lives. It also helps one to remember to not put such value on monetary or material objects. It helps to remind us of the truly important things like our families. Show more Show less
