Hi I'm Melanie

I happily traded my career of accolades and international travel for stained T-shirts and sticky messes. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

You might say I'm easily bored. I majored in French, dabbled in journalism, worked in international sales, became a public speaker, certified in Web analytics, and then embarked on my greatest adventure--starting a family with my wonderful husband. I always excelled at work, but I find that my kids are not as easily impressed with me. Still, I keep trying and hope that I'll figure out this parenting thing one day. Now, I work from home part-time so I can witness the wonder of toddlerhood first hand and scribble thorough notes about the funny/sweet/horrific/insightful/amazing things they say every day.

Why I am a Mormon

I am so grateful for the compass of modern day revelation. Sometimes it can be difficult to discern right from wrong when society at large condemns conservative values as being stuffy or restrictive. On top of that, we are bombarded with issues that didn't exist in ancient times and that aren't specifically addressed in scripture. Today, we are faced with difficult situations like addiction, pornography, abortion, and more. Our Heavenly Father is still here, as he was in ancient times, to guide us through these murky waters. He loves and knows us individually. Through the Holy Spirit, He still provides guidance when we pray. He still directs us through prophets as He did in days of old. I know God lives. I know He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to atone for my sins. I know that accepting this gift of salvation obligates me to repent and follow His example. In doing so, I find peace, joy, and forgiveness. His teachings protect me from natural inclinations that would imprison me. Instead, I am free of self-inflicted burdens. I have been saved by His grace when I least deserved it and with that clean slate, I have been able to build a life that is more than I ever hoped I would attain. Why am I a Mormon? This gospel rings true to my soul and makes sense to my mind. It is my compass and my joy. I am honored to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I lead a weekday youth group of amazing 8 and 9-year-old girls. They set goals for themselves, learn new skills, and provide community service. Their sweetness and enthusiasm inspires me to be a better person. Their excitement about the program pushes me to prepare more meaningful activities for them and to ensure that they always feel welcome, safe, and loved.
