Hi I'm Ric

I'm a Mormon and... I'm a construction worker, a sports and music lover and a missionary in the Canada Toronto Mission!

About Me

i lived in Calgary until i was 8 and then i moved to Idaho. (about one hour away from BYU-I). ha I'm pretty creative unless you count drawing. i like being out-doors, which includes hunting, camping, hiking, whitewater rafting, paint balling and many other things as well. i enjoy occasionally working on my 1966 mustang fastback, ill hopefully have it done soon. i think I'm going to take a few different things in college including: fashion, business management, construction management, culinary arts, psychology and a few others, but who knows? i enjoy most activities as long as friends are around. i used to play football and hockey but i do not really play any sports as of right now. i really enjoy learning and trying new things as well as experiencing different cultures. i try to always have a smile on my face and I'm pretty easy to get along with.

Why I am a Mormon

my dad is a convert and my mom's parents are converts and i was fortunate enough to grow up in the church. although i may have gone to church with them every Sunday, i did not know if it was true or if the church down the street was. so i had to do as everyone else has done that really wants to know the truth. i had to read from the Book of Mormon and see if it really does talk and testify of Jesus Christ and to see if the things it teaches coincide with the teachings in the bible. although reading the book of Mormon brought me closer to Jesus Christ, i did not know it was the word of God until i prayed about it. James 1:5 and the promise in the Book of Mormon, Moroni 10:3-5, was what i followed in order to gain a witness from the holly ghost that the Church of Jesus Christ is God's kingdom once again established on earth. and as i continually do the things that both the bible and book of Mormon teach i am able to come closer and closer to my savior and in so doing, i am happier every day.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving a mission in the Canada Toronto Mission. i feel blessed to be able to help in this great work and to help people find the answers that they have been looking for, such as: Why am i here? Where did i come from? Where am i going? Spiritual CPR helps me out too, going to church, praying to my heavenly father, and reading the scriptures.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Ric
Jesus Christ is responsible for the Bible and the Book of Mormon. although our savior did not physically write ether one, he inspired certain men to record the revelations that they have received along with the history's of their people. Mosiah, Nephi and Alma are inspired men that wrote in the Book of Mormon; just like Job, Mark and John are inspired men that wrote in the Bible. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Ric
i know that there is a prophet of God on the earth today. one of the ways i know that is because of how much bad there is in the world. a loving Heavenly Father would not sit back and let his children go into such a wicked world with out some sort of guidance. if there was not a prophet on the earth to guide us, how would we ever know if we are on the right path. take Moses for example, in the time that he was gone (to Mt. Sinai where he received the 10 commandments) the children of Isreal were already worshiping a golden calf. we NEED the constant guidance of a prophet if we are to overcome Satan and his temptations. Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Ric
yes, we fortunately do have the bible but that alone is not enough. when the savior was on the earth he still had to teach his gospel even though the Pharisees and religious scholars of the time had many scriptures to learn from. Jesus taught His gospel in its fullness, meaning he taught the what, how and why of His doctrine. but over a few centuries, the "how" and "why" of his teachings were lost. today we still have the "what" being the bible, but what about the "how" and the "why"? if everyone knew "how" to follow the bible, there would only be one church on the earth. if everyone knew the "why" then there would be a lot less wickedness in the world today. i know that through the Restoration of the Gospel, the "how" and "why" of the Savior's teachings have been restored. that is one reason why the Restoration of the Gospel was needed. Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

Ric
Baptism is the gate which allows us to have our sins washed away if we have properly repented of our past transgressions. that is why authority from God is important. man can not forgive another man for his sins and because of this, authority from God is needed. you can not get that authority from simply going to school or reading the bible, and there is no authority certificate that is recognized by God that can be printed off the internet that would allow a person to preform a baptism. that authority must come directly from God. when a person is baptized by someone holding that authority from God, then the person being baptized is cleansed through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
