Hi I'm Jen

I'm a wife, a mother of 4, a former elementary school teacher, a huge college football fan, a lover of event planning & a Mormon.

About Me

Being a stay-at-home mom has been my dream since I held my first baby doll as a child. My 4 children definitely keep me busy and bring me so much joy. The skills I learned while preparing for and teaching in a 6th grade gifted classroom for 4 years have definitely helped me to be a better parent. Although I have chosen to stay home now with my children, I also try to pursue some of my personal goals. I spend my spare time planning parties & blogging for popular event/party planning websites and running a website of my own. My kids are still the beneficiaries of these personal pursuits as we work on planning their birthday parties together!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family and have always felt a deep love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Although I can't remember a time where I ever doubted my testimony, when I was 12 my parents encouraged me to pray, as Joseph Smith did, and ask God for a confirmation that the Church was true. They referred me to the passage in James 1:5 which reads: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." I did ask God. As a 12 yr. old young woman, I knelt at the side of my bed, fully believing that God would not only hear, but also answer my fervent prayer. My experience was not as marvelous as Joseph's. I did not see God, the Father or His Son, Jesus Christ. Instead, I felt a burning in my heart that I know was His spirit, testifying to me that the things I believed (and still believe) were indeed true. I have never questioned that testimony. It has been the most amazing source of strength throughout my life, especially during trying times. My knowledge that there is a Father in Heaven who loves me and knows me personally and a Savior who has atoned for my sins, that I may repent and be whole again, has brought great comfort. Understanding that there is a plan for me and each person who has lived and will ever live brings me great joy & peace! I know the Gospel is true and encourage everyone to take the challenge in James to "ask God".

How I live my faith

When Christ lived on the Earth, he said, "Come Follow Me". In other words, "do the things you see me do". His mortal mission was dedicated to serving His fellow men. As one of His disciples, I live my faith by also seeking to serve others. I do this by starting in my own home and teaching my own family to love one another, show compassion, kindness & tolerance. In the community I serve by helping those less fortunate than myself--donating time, resources & money to help the poor and needy, contributing offerings to go towards disaster relief, building churches & schools in other countries. Service in my community also looks like helping a neighbor move, taking in meals to those who are sick or afflicted, tending children while a friend gets a much needed break. I also live my faith by serving in my church. From working with teenage girls, to serving in the nursery with infants and toddlers, to visiting with the widows in our women's organization called the Relief Society, each opportunity to serve has brought great joy! Currently, I am a Bear Den Leader in our church sponsored Cub Scout organization. Because we are all brothers and sisters in His gospel, I live my faith by caring about individuals and loving & serving them as He would.
