Hi I'm Becky

I grew up in New Mexico. I love to travel and read books. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in New Mexico with my parents and brother. In high school, I decided I wanted to start traveling, and since then I have been able to visit Spain, France, Holland, Italy, Peru, Mexico, and various cities in the United States. I love being in a new place and trying to get around. One thing I have learned is how many good people there are out in the world. In college I studied English, and I developed a love for literature and art. I am a newlywed, and I love life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. When I pray to my Heavenly Father, I feel His love for me. I know that He is listening. This church has taught me that Heavenly Father has a plan for me. I am not here by accident or by chance. He knows me, and He is doing everything He can to help me learn, grow, and come home to Him. I know that I am a child of God. I know that because I am His child, He has provided a savior for me, Jesus Christ. I know that as I repent of my sins and try to do my best in life that I can draw closer to Him. I can know who He is. I can recognize when he sends me messages through His Holy Spirit. I can also recognize the men on earth that He has called to guide His children, His prophets. I know that just as God called prophets in the Bible, He calls them today because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I am a Mormon because I have asked my Heavenly Father if this is right, and I have learned from Him that this is where He wants me to be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through service. Right now I am working with the young women in my congregation. It has been a wonderful experience seeing them learn and grow. Every Sunday I get to help with a youth oriented gospel study class, and every Wednesday I get to help the girls plan and put on fun activities. This chance to plan activities gives the girls an opportunity to learn leadership and responsibility as well as how to have some good clean fun. They learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ as well as good life skills. It is such a great opportunity, serving in this church. Everyday I learn and grow a little more.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

We believe that because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, He continues to give us direction just as He always has, through prophets. He calls prophets to guide and direct His church on the earth. One of the things that Heavenly Father revealed through His prophets is what we call the "Word of Wisdom," which is exactly what it sounds like, wise words from a father who loves us very much and only wants the best for us. The Word of Wisdom cautions us against using addictive substances including coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. We keep this commandment because we love our Heavenly Father and we want to obey him. We believe that keeping his commandments shows our love and faith in Him. Besides this motivation, we also keep this commandment because it helps us to be strong and healthy. I never have to worry about getting cancer from smoking. I never have to worry about endangering myself or my loved ones because I drank just a little to much. I don't even have to worry about something as simple as depending on that cup of coffee to get me going in the morning. I have found that as I follow the Word of Wisdom, I always have the energy I need. Also, because I have made the decision to follow this commandment, I have the confidence I need to resist temptation when it does come. I am so grateful that Heavenly Father cares enough about me, that He wants to warn me about what I put into my body. Show more Show less
