Hi I'm Kathy

I'm fluent in English, Spanish, Java, and C++. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've always loved learning and creating things. As a kid, I drew pictures and made up stories about my imaginary world. These days, I build educational software during the day, and cottages in Minecraft in the evening.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was baptized at age 8, I was no scholar of theology, but I believed in Jesus Christ and trusted my parents' good example. I knew that getting baptized was the right thing to do and that I was making a promise I wanted to keep. I've found that my conviction of the gospel of Christ has been strengthened as I've answered the call to prove what I believe. As I prepared to share the gospel on a full-time mission, I knew that I'd be inviting people to pray and ask God if what we had taught was true. Had God and His Son Jesus Christ really appeared to Joseph Smith and called him to be a prophet? I realized that I myself needed to pray and ask God, so I did. Because of the answer I received through the Holy Spirit, I know that Joseph's account is true, with as much certainty as if I'd seen it myself. I have felt the Redeemer take an active part in my life. When, like a lost sheep, I have cried out for help, He has heard me, comforted me, and guided me through His Spirit. He knows when I need this comforting touch, and when I just need space to study things out in my own mind.

How I live my faith

My husband and I do our best to be excellent to each other, so that our marriage can be forever. We teach kids at church: we open up the Bible and Book of Mormon with them, and talk together about how those stories apply to us today, especially what we learn about following Jesus Christ. We also work with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. I believe it's important for children and youth to have the opportunity to do things that matter, to help others and make a difference for good in the community. I hope to help them discover the service they can give, and the joy that it brings.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Kathy
Our Church's official name is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Lord revealed to the prophet Joseph Smith that since the Church is Christ's, it should bear His name. Jesus Christ restored His church for us in these latter days leading up to His second coming. We define saints as members of the Church: we are sanctified in Christ through baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and striving to follow Him always. We're called Mormons because we believe that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. The book is named after Mormon, a prophet in the ancient Americas who abridged the words of many other ancient prophets, bringing them together into one book. Like the Bible, the Book of Mormon is a "book of books", written and preserved over the years to convince all people that Jesus is the Christ. Show more Show less
