Hi I'm James

I clean windows for a living, run marathons, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 49 years old, married for 27 years, and have four wonderful children. I own and operate a small window cleaning business in California, USA. I enjoy running on the trails in the hills and mountains near my home and try to participate in at least one marathon race every year.

Why I am a Mormon

At the age of eighteen I felt like I was going nowhere and my life had no meaning. I knew I was living below my potential. One day when I was feeling especially hopeless I got down on my knees and began to pour my heart out to my Heavenly Father. I pleaded with Him for a witness that He was there and that He was aware of me. I apologized for my many follies and let Him know that I wanted to do better but that I really needed His help. Suddenly a wonderful calming feeling of loving reassurance flooded my heart. I knew then that God is real. I promised Him that if He would only guide me I would follow Him for the rest of my life. As I arose I felt sure that I was about to be blessed with something big. At that very moment the doorbell rang. I answered the door and there stood two Mormon missionaries. One of them said to me, "We have a message from Jesus Christ especially for you". When he said that, I was instantly filled with a feeling that these were true messangers of Heavenly Father sent to answer my prayer. Approximatlely eighteen months later I was serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Argentina. That was nearly 30 years ago. Since that time my life has been so richly blessed with happiness that it defies description. I have learned again and again that God does answer prayers. Jesus Christ died for me and in some way that I cannot begin to understand, He paid the price of my sins if only I will repent and do my best to follow Him. I have tried to do this and I feel with all my heart it has been worth it.

How I live my faith

I currently serve in the Church in the capacity of helping the youth learn the gospel. I get to help plan activities where the youth from several local Mormon congregations get together such as dances, conferences, and other activities that promote following the Lord and living righteous standards. I also participate in planning and assisting in interfaith forums, where youth from several religions come together and discuss certain topics such as tolerance or how to maintain high standards in today's society. I also help with the Seminary program, which is basically a scripture study class that takes place each school day before High School starts class starts at 545 A.M.. The students learn more about the scriptures and Church history and doctrine. It is a great way for them to start their day off on the right foot.
