Hi I'm John

I'm happy to be a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married to a wonderful woman from Laos for over 20 years! We have 4 children. 1 son and 3 beautiful daughters. We've lived in California for 4 years after we were married. We moved to Idaho and have lived her for 18 years. We love to do things as a family, especially when it has to do with the outdoors. Last year we hiked into the Idaho back country on a 15 mile hike. We also like to travel. We've taken family trips to NYC, Washington DC, Philadelphia and all over the west. We would like to some day visit every country in the US. I like reading, camping, fishing and enjoy electronic gadgets. I've recently started Geocaching. Most of all, I enjoy being with my wife and kids. We play games, watch movies and just enjoy talking. Spending time is important to me.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were Mormon when I was born. I was raised in the church. I'm really grateful for this, because of all the bad things that are surrounding young people. It gave me a good foundation and understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ. I learned early of his doctrines of faith, repentance, baptism and the gift of the holy ghost. For this experience, I'm truly grateful. Now as a father, I've tried to teach my children what is important. These same doctrines that are available to all of us. I know the power of prayer is real. We can talk to our Heavenly Father and he will give us answers. Through baptism and the holy ghost or holy spirit, we can live our lives knowing his will for us. I've found that I can ask him if something is true and through his holy spirit, I can know if it's true. All he asks of us is to keep his commandments, that are given to us by Jesus Christ and his leaders. I know that Jesus Christ's gospel is on this earth and he has a living prophet who helps direct his church. The gospel of Jesus Christ gives me comfort, purpose and direction in my life. I know God Lives, I know Jesus Christ lives and we are his children. He has given us his word through his prophets in the Bible and Book of Mormon. I know they are true. Please read these scriptures and use the power of prayer and you can know they are true as well.

How I live my faith

Christ has asked us to serve one another. The Mormon church has given me this chance every day. As we read in Mathew chapter 25 verse 40 "Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." To me, this means service. When we serve on another, in essence, we are serving Jesus Christ. I have the chance to visit two elderly couples each month that live in my area and are Mormons. My son and I go to their homes and get to know them, teach and learn from them and help them with whatever they need. The other day, we helped one of the families move in an new couch. What a blessing to both of us and it gave us the chance to serve. My area has a church cannery. Last month we volunteered at the cannery and helped to can turkey chunks. Food from this cannery is shipped all over the world to those in need. There are many opportunities like this in the Mormon church. Since we don't have paid clergy, meaning members of the church are asked to serve in positions of leadership without pay, there are opportunities to teach and serve one another. I have worked with cub scouts, boy scouts, taught 5 year old children, my daughter included and right now I've been asked to teach from a pulpit. This has been hard, since public speaking is difficult. But I have faith that this is what my Savior wants me to do, so I do it. We are all brothers and sisters and we are all trying out best. Even though I'm not a professional, I know that this form of service is what he wants. We all need help and the Lord has asked us to help one another. This brings us happiness and the Mormon church gives us this chance.
