Hi I'm Tom

I grew up in the southeastern U.S. I'm a high school teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married and the father of three children ages 13,11, and 7. I love my work as a teacher but I try to put family first as much as possible. I love to watch my kids play sports and spend most of my free time with my family. I also love ACC basketball, traveling, and reading.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the teachings of my faith give me peace of mind and help me understand who I am and what life is all about.

How I live my faith

Because I look at everyone on this earth as my spriritual brother and sister, I try to always treat others just as I would my true family members. I try to be a good neighbor and a good citizen by participating in community service projects when time permits. Living my faith also involves being an active member of my church. My current church assignment allows me to work directly with the missionaries of our church in sharing our message with people in the community.

What is Mormonism? OR What do Mormons believe?

Besides paying for our sins, one of the things Jesus did while on the earth was to organize a church. The twelve apostles and other leaders of the time received priesthood authority from Jesus to lead and teach the members of this early church. Due to the wickedness of the times, these early leaders were persecuted and after a period of time, the priesthood authority was no longer in place and the church as originally organized ceased to exist. This general falling away is mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 and Acts 20:29-30. However, the scriptures state that Jesus would restore his church before the second coming. (Acts 3:19-21) Our message is that Jesus did indeed restore his church and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that very church. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe that God is all knowing, all-powerful, and rules the universe. He is also the father of our spirits. We refer to him as Heavenly Father. We believe we are created in his image. He has a body like ours, with arms, legs, a head, etc. His body, however, is immortal and perfect. As our father, he loves us and wants us to be happy. He has a plan whereby we can live with him when this life is over. Show more Show less
