Hi I'm Matt

I'm a Boy Scout leader and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi! I'm a father of five amazing children, the oldest of whom is serving as a missionary in Maryland. I've worked as a software developer for 20 years for Hewlett-Packard Company. My favorite things to do are read about American and ancient history, research my family roots, and attend my kids' band concerts. I've been a Boy Scout leader for more than a decade and will be attending the National Scout Jamboree with my son in 2013.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by my parents in the faith, but was always told to find out for myself whether it was true or not. The beginnings of that personal knowledge came as a 14 year old boy amid piles of clothing in the laundry room--the one place where I thought I could go and pray in private. As I have studied the gospel of Jesus Christ, it has made sense to me as if I were placing pieces of a puzzle together and saw that they matched up and made a beautiful picture. But that feeling of rightness is only one aspect of evidence of the truth to me. I have also been privileged to give blessings to my wife, children, and others and seen miracles come from these blessings. In my service in the church, I have seen the faith and dedication of others around me which have been a testimony to me of the truth of His church. As Jesus said, "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

How I live my faith

I am a father and husband first of all and try to lead my family in doing what is right. We read the scriptures and pray together every night. We spend an hour or more together as a family every Monday evening and each of my children has a part in this family night, either to conduct the meeting, say the prayer, give the lesson, organize a game, or make treats. We attend church together and serve side by side whether it is pulling weeds at a neighbor's house or hiking to a camp site high in the mountains. One of my loves has been the Boy Scouts of America and I have served as a leader in my church-sponsored Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs for more than a decade. I love seeing boys grow in knowledge and gain confidence from Scouting.
