Hi I'm Art

My ancestors are French Canadian. I'm a school teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Raised in upstate New York, I was part of a very large family - now I have one of my own. Love coaching and working with youth. Been around the world a couple times thanks to a career in the merchant marine.

Why I am a Mormon

My original reasons for joining the church were much less compelling than they are now, but that's just how the gospel works. I opened my heart up to the truth - really not understanding more than that my choice to be baptized was a good one - and have been richly blessed as a result, especially the more I serve others. The gospel teaches you principles of life, great ways to live. I also know who I am, where I came from, and where I am going - thta's pretty awesome!

How I live my faith

My life has been blessed through service. The church is about doing your best and spending spare time - time that often would be spent in less worthwhile pursuits - helping the Lord care for his children. I get to work with good, loving, ordinary people like me - but ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things when on the Lord's errand. I get to work with youth and adults alike. It is such a privilege to rub shoulders with people who volunteer their time and talents on a weekly basis to make life a little bit sweeter, a touch richer. And we have fun and laugh and smile, too - it's not ALL work.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

As a Dad of a recently returned missionary, I can answer the question of how missions are funded pretty easily. First of all, Mormon missions are not paid for by the church. And the missionaries are not paid for going away two years! And most importantly, no one is forced to go. Often the prospective missionary tries to save for all or part of his/her mission from jobs while they are still in high school. Frequently family and extended family as with our son help pay some or all of the costs if there is a shortfall. And sometimes different church members voluntarily pay for all or part of the costs. Whatever the means used to get a willing, worthy missionary out to share the gospel, all who participate are blessed along the way. Show more Show less
