Hi I'm Matt

I love swimming, I grew up in Las Vegas, I am serving a mission in Orlando Florida, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently have the opportunity to be serving the Lord Jesus Christ in Florida as a missionary. I was studying Chemistry before the mission and will return to do so after. Chemistry is my passion as I see the world in a different light than most people. I love taking the world one day at a time and doing things that others struggle to do, which is why I enjoy doing triathlons. I'm also an avid Clarinet player who loves a good bit of classical music sometimes.

Why I am a Mormon

My dad converted when I was 7 years old and since then I've always gone to church, but that wasn't enough to make me desire to serve a mission or to believe in Christ. I had to discover it for myself, which I did as I attended church, prayed, and read the Book of Mormon. I was invited to pray about the Book of Mormon when I was about 16 and as I prayed, I knew it was true. I can't explain the feelings or the thoughts that came to me at that moment, but I know that it was the Holy Ghost speaking to me. It was the best witness that I could ever have. What greater witness can I have than from God? Ever since that moment I began to really keep the commandments of the Lord, not that I had been a bad kid, but I hadn't kept the commandments with my heart like I should have. Christ helped me to change and become the person I am today, with a wonderful happiness that can only come through the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Because the Book of Mormon is true, I know that Jesus is the Christ, I also know that Christ restored his church through the prophet Joseph Smith.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as a full time missionary for Jesus Christ to help others come unto him and receive the peace and happiness that only comes through him. These beliefs fit right in with regular life as reading and praying don't take that long, and it is more of a lifestyle with Christlike habits than a "Sunday Christian". I try to live in harmony with the gospel standards that Christ followed, but because I'm imperfect, he gives me the opportunity to repent and change every day, little by little.

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Yes! You are very welcome to join us in worshipping our Heavenly Father during any church service. Our main service and most important one is called sacrament meeting, where we partake of the bread and water, sing hymns, pray, and listen to two or three assigned speakers from the congregation on a gospel topic. Sacrament meeting is the most sacred meeting of the church and the time for us to receive answers from God through his Holy Spirit, or what is called Revelation. You will not be expected to give any donation or to do anything more than sit, feel the Spirit, and enjoy the learning process. My favorite thing about attending church is the peace that I feel there and the joy that comes through the Holy Ghost. There are also some sunday school classes that either follow the sacrament meeting or precede it, one in particular is very special to me. It is called Gospel Principles where we discuss how the Gospel affects our lives and how we can live it better by talking in simpler terms for real growth. Sunday school classes are taught in age appropriate groups for the best way to learn. I personally invite you to attend church this Sunday in the Chapel near you. Show more Show less
