Hi I'm Joseph

I'm a father of five and husband of a wonderful woman. I'm an engineer, an eagle scout, a professor and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the father of five children and several grandchildren. I live in Rolla, Missouri where I teach Chemical Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. I'm was trained as a combustion engineer at Brigham Young University. With my name, BYU is a great school have graduated from. I tell my students as a Boy Scout I learned how to make a fire and now I get paid to study fire. As a young boy I lived with my family in Death Valley Junction, California (population 25). My grandfather was my hero who taught me to look for better ways to build things and showed me how to do experiments. I'm an engineer today because of him. My boy scout leader was my Dad who helped me learn the value of duty to God, Country and self. I'm an eagle scout and remain active in the Boy Scouts of America. I played on an undefeated state championship football team and a state championship runner up basketball team in high school and remain active today in an effort to keep my body physically fit as I committed to do in the Scout Oath. My wife and I were blessed with five wonderful children and seven awesome grandchildren. My joy is watching my children succeed in their lives and watching my grandchildren grow and succeed in their lives. I have also come to appreciate my family and enjoy learning about those who came before me. I believe its important to know where you come from - I honor my ancestors and hope to bring honor to their name throughout my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes sense to me. It has common sense answers to the main questions in life - where did I come from; why am I here, and where am I going. I know that by living the precepts taught I am happier. My greatest blessing in life is my family and I know that I can be together with my family forever. I am grateful for my ancestors who came before me. I am grateful for my heritage because of the sacrifices of those who came before me. I believe the greatest accomplishment of my life is to live honorable, be faithful to my wife, and raise a good family.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being true to my beliefs through the way I treat others and what I chose to do with my time and resources. I have served in the Boy Scouts of America for over twenty five years and have particularly enjoyed serving as a scout master three different times in three different parts of the United States.

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Joseph
My mother gave me the name of our church's founder - Joseph Smith. Every day of my life I have been reminded about Joseph Smith and what he did. As a young boy, Joseph Smith wanted to know for himself which church he should join and with the pure faith of a young boy he followed the advice of James that he read in his family Bible. When Joseph prayed and asked his question, he saw and talked with our Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. Because of this marvelous experience Joseph learned that the original church of Jesus Christ had been lost from the earth and was no longer on the earth. He was told that he was to join no church. Joseph was the instrument that the Lord used to restore the original church of Jesus Christ to the earth. Joseph was also given the proper authority to baptize and perform other saving ordinances originally held by the early apostles. I am grateful for these blessings and am humbled to carry the name of the prophet Joseph Smith. Show more Show less
