Hi I'm Jordan

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a Master's student studying Mechanical Engineering, doing my research in Friction Stir Welding which I think is really awesome, if that tells you anything about me!. I grew up in Texas, near Dallas, although my family currently lives in Arizona. In my free time, when I am by myself, I like to read a good book, or, with friends, go for a hike or just hang out- like most people.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints- I have a loving and supportive family who supported me in my decisions. But I also have always had a science bent, and, when I was younger and in High School, I somehow got the impression at school that you could not believe in God and in Science at the same time. It seemed like the teachings of both seemed to disagree on to many points- and Science seemed to have better evidence. How I struggled with this! I studied the scriptures as well as my text books, searching for an answer to my dilemma, but all I found was confusion. It was after a few months of this, as my family drove up to my Grandparent's home, a 10 hour drive away, that everything came to a head. As I sat in the backseat, looking out at the mountains, it seemed I had to make a choice- if I should believe in God or not. As I pondered on the question, feeling more and more despair, I said a prayer, asking for relief. Almost instantly, my mind was filled with memories of all the times I had felt God's presence in my life- with my family, in my decisions, supporting me in loss- a power I could not explain. I realized that my whole life my certainty of God's existence had been growing as the Holy Ghost witnessed to me time and again. I know the truth of God's Gospel, centered on His Son, Jesus Christ, our savior, the same way as I know the truth of God's existence. I know through searching and praying and through the witness of the Holy Ghost that Christ died for our sins, and Lives now. I know the same way that the Book of Mormon is a second witness of the divinity of Christ, and a testament of His work on the earth. Having been told these things by God through the Holy Ghost, how could I not be Mormon?

How I live my faith

My faith is very important to me and influences most of my actions. Because of it, I try to always think of how others feel because of my actions, and I love it when I can brighten someone's day by a quick act of service- stopping to pick up some one from my apartment complex I see walking along the road, or helping someone with their groceries. I get to help teach lessons on Sunday for my ward, but I think it is in the service around us that we really get to live our faith.
