Hi I'm Blake

I grew up as an Idaho farm boy, milking cows by hand, weeding the garden and raking hay into windrows with my horse-drawn rake.

About Me

My wife of 48 years and I have eight children--all boys except the first seven--with 30 grandchildren. I graduated from a California high school and attended college in Utah, Oklahoma, and Kansas where I earned undergraduate, masters' and doctoral degrees in biology and education. I taught in public and private schools for about 10 years, then worked for a government contractor as an environmental engineer until retirement a few years ago. Retirement has allowed me to pursue interests, including fishing, hunting, photography, HAM radio, bookbinding, gardening and scouting. My scouting interests have taken me to eleven national and international Boy Scout jamborees.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up with loving and caring hardworking parents. Their examples of righteous and committed Christians living set an example which I desired to follow. I set out on my own to determine the veracity of the Church and of the Book of Mormon, which eventually came in the form of a number of sacred spiritual affirmations. I know that only by following the precepts of Jesus Christ and by keeping my life pure and clean and being faithful can I obtain my ultimate goal of eternal life where I can be with my Savior and loved ones forever.

How I live my faith

I believe in service and I enjoy seeking to assist others as I exercise my appointment as a bishop in the Church. Christ has set a great example of righteousness through his atonement-- which I continue to labor to better understand. I am convinced that only through Christ is eternal life available. I do all I can to live righteously and keep all of the Lord's commandments, including the 10 commandments.
