Do you want to chat with a missionary?

We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hi I'm Adam H

I grew up in Idaho. I love doing things with my family and friends. I like to read and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to play soccer, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, ultimate football and other things with my friends. I played the trumpet for 7 years and was in concert band for 6 1/2 years, marching band for 4 years, and jazz band for a little bit.  I served a mission in Minnesota for two years. I'm a eagle scout.

Why I am a Mormon

I originally became a Mormon because I was born a member of the church. The reason I am still Mormon is because I decided to see for myself to see if the beliefs I had been taught was true or not. So, I read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover and prayed to Heavenly Father to get an answer for myself if it is true or not. Every decision that I make that is really crucial in life I make sure that I pray to Heavenly Father because he cannot lie to me. So if something is true than he will tell me that it is true. So that's why I'm a Mormon, because I pondered, searched and asked heavenly Father if this church is the true church. My answer was that this church is the true church. So I listened to Heavenly father instead of those around me because I knew that he would tell me what church is his church.

How I live my faith

I love giving service and I serve my fellowman whenever there is a chance. I grew up doing service. I enjoy giving blood when there are blood drives in the area. I love going out to the church farm and thinning or picking the fruit because I know that the fruit will help someone out down the road, like when a disaster happens around the world.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Adam H
No, we don't just help mormons. We help whenever there is a disaster somewhere around the world. There are a ton of young men, young women and couples around the world serving those around them whenever the get the chance. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Adam H
One way that we can start to get rid of pornography is to start at your own home. We need to watch what we allow in our homes. Alot of the magazines now a days are in a way pornographic. It all starts out small. Then it gets bigger and bigger. We need to put up filters on our computers. We need to watch what movies we allow in our homes. We also need to watch what we allow our kids to wear and what we wear. Make sure that no one in your family is walking porn. That's how it all starts. People allow themselves to have pictures taken of them where a little bit of their body is showing. Then they start taking off more and more. Trust me. I do not want to see girls with their junk hanging out. I dislike that just as much as you dislike guys with their junk hanging out. Well, I agree with you. So why do you think you can go around showing your junk to the world. I do like being able to look where ever I want to. If everyone got rid of pornography at their own homes than there wouldn't be any out there. If there wasn't any porn out there than there would be less divorces out there. The world would be a better place too. So let's start with our own homes. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Adam H
You may ask us why we go out as missionaries. Well, let me tell you. As a missionary myself I went out and knocked on door after door because we have a message that has helped us and our families through out our lives. I will tell you this much. If I didn't know that this church is true then I wouldn't have gone out and knocked on your door. Trust me it is really awkward to knock on your door. If you had something that has helped you out wouldn't you want to share it with others? Or you can look at it the way that I look at it. If you had an unlimited supply of your favorite dessert wouldn't you want to go out and share it with everyone? Well, that is what we are doing. So we basically do it because we love you so much that we are willing to go out and knock on your door to share our message with you. Plus it helps us grow ourselves. We are able to see how we are able to handle people slamming doors in our faces, people yelling at us, people threatening us, and people that are actually nice to us and treat us as fellow humans. For me it was a way to get to know my self as I was helping others gain a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Adam H
My family is important to me because they are my best friends. Friends that will be there no matter what. So why wouldn't my family be important to me. First of all, we were sent here into a family unit to learn and to grow up in a good loving environment. Sure you may say that I got lucky with a good family. Then make your family a good loving environment. Not everyone gets lucky. I have friends that have families that don't ever do stuff together. I care more about my family than I care about my friends. I will do anything to protect my family. I'm willing to die for my family. Are you willing to die for yours? Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Adam H
When the mormon missionaries visit your home they will share a message that has helped them in their lives. This message that they share is meant to strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ. Sure we would love to have you join our church but we beleive that you can choose which church you want to go to. We only want you to join if you feel like what the missionaries is teaching you is true or if what they've been teaching you brings you closer to Christ. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Adam H
I'm glad that we don't have paid clergy. It shows their faith in Jesus Christ by taking on callings on top of their regular jobs. To me it shows their dedication to the church. I don't ever recall Christ ever getting paid for what he did while he was down here on Earth. So why should we get paid to do what Christ did. We should do it for the same reason that Christ did it, Love. He did everything that he did because he loved everyone. He never rejected or shuned away from anyone. Not even lepers. He put others before himself. He always lifted people up. He also said what his Father told him to say and not what the people wanted him to say. It is sad to see some of these churches that are being controlled by those that pay the pastor or priest the most. So the pastor or priest is saying what the people want to hear and not what God wants them to say. So by not having the paid clergy that is all eliminated. Instead of receiving money they give time and receive blessings from God for teaching the truth and what God wants them to teach. So there are no strings attached. You will never see anyone with callings in the church drive a nice car or have a huge house because they are receiving money from the church. They have those things because they go to work some where else and earn money. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Adam H
We are not paid to go on missions. We pay to come out. We can be called on full time missions for 18 to 24 months. Some people aren't able to earn enough money so people will help them out by paying for part of their mission. For me it was a priviledge and a blessing to set aside two years and to pay my way out to serve the Lord. I would feel ashamed if I was payed to do this. While we are on our missions we don't have jobs. We set aside the whole time talking with people about Jesus Christand his gospel. We don't go out to argue with people. We just want to talk about what we believe and if you like what we believe that YOU can make the decision to be baptized in our church. If you don't then you can tell us and we will respect you and we will stop coming. The main reason why I served my mission is because I love those that I teach or I wouldn't go out and and make myself feel akward. Plus I love the Lord a lot and I try my best to follow him. That's what we want other people to do. We ask people to ask God what he wants them to do. Not what we want them to do. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Adam H
Everything that I look at tells me that there is a God. For first of all look how complicated our bodies are. Not even the smartest group of scientists can fully comprehend even just the brain. How could there not be a God. If you just even take a minute to think about how plants or animals were created you would beleive that their is a God. If you still deny God after that than you didn't think about it. If you have to see to beleive then you don't beleive that there is a million dollar bill. But you do know that there is a Million dollar bill out there. So why can't you beleive that there is a God out there? Show more Show less

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Adam H
A normal Mormon church service consists of three meetings. The first one is called Sacrament where we can partake of the sacrament or communion. In this meeting we sing hymns or religious songs and we also have opening and closing Prayers. Also during Sacrament there are speakers who are people from the audience who are assigned a topic on which to talk about. They usually have about a week to prepare. We don't have ministers the talk because we have a lame ministry. Which means that no one with callings are paid. All of these people have jobs else where so that they can support their families. The second meeting is called Sunday School. It's like bible study. There are classes for each age group for people 12 and up. Everyone older than 18 meets together. All of the kids from 3 to 11 go to Primary. Kids 18 months to 3 go to nursery. Primary and Nursery last for two hours. The third hour the men ages 12 and up go to Priesthood and the women go to Relief Society in which they can be enlightened and learn how to become better people as they come closer to Christ. Everyone is welcome to go to all three hours or even just one. We love it when visitors come visit. Show more Show less

Adam H
No they don't endorse certain people. You can find good standards and morals in all major political parties. We are just encouraged to vote for the people that we think will be the best candidate. We are urged to be full participants in political, governmental, and community affairs. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Adam H
We are asked to pay 10% of our income to move forward the work of the church. The cool thing is that it is used for the church to keep it in working order. It is up to each individual to decide if they are going to pay 10% of their income. First of all isn't it God that gives us everything? So why not give back 10% to him. I have found that I can do more with 90% of my income than I can with 100% of my income. I am blessed in many different ways when I pay my tithing or 10% of my income. To some people they see money that they are giving that they could use on something else. I see it as money that I can't afford not to give to the Lord and all of the blessings that I extremely need to get through this world. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Adam H
We do not worship Joseph Smith. We do worship God our Eternal Father and the risen Jesus Christ. We do believe that he was a prophet called of God as were Aaron, Noah, Daniel, and Moses. We reverence him as an instrument in the hands of God in restoring to the earth the ancient truths of the divine gospel that Jesus Christ himself set up when he was on the earth. Show more Show less

What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Adam H
The whole purpose of the welfare in the church is to care for the and serve the poor and needy while promoting self-reliance. The recipients are encouraged to work when they are able to. Work is a big principle in life. There are a lot of people out there that are really trying and are struggling. So the welfare services are there to help them get on their feet again. When we do everything that we can we will be blessed and be able to help others. A lot of people are quick to help others but when it comes to them needing help/assistance they are slow to ask.
