Hi I'm Brett

I'm from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm studying to become a software developer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently studying Computer Science at Brigham Young University. I enjoy music and have played piano for about 15 years. I also enjoy many sports: basketball, football, volleyball, racquetball, rugby, hockey, and ultimate Frizzbee. I lived in Quebec, Canada for two years serving a full-time service mission for my church. I speak English and French.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents are Mormon, so I grew up going to church every Sunday. I don't live with my parents currently, but I still go to church every week. It comes down to something very simple. I came to know God exists through personal prayer. Ever since I can remember I was encouraged to pray by my mother. As I came to receive answers to my prayer I learned that God really does know us personally and cares about us. I'm a Mormon, because I've prayed and asked God if The Book of Mormon is true and if there was a living prophet today on the earth. I received the answer yes to both of these questions. The truthfulness has been confirmed as I have lived by the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because of this, I feel closer to my Savior, Jesus Christ, and I feel good inside.

How I live my faith

I read from the scriptures and pray to God. I also go to Church every Sunday. I visit other members of my faith to strengthen them spiritually and help out. I try to be friendly to everyone I meet. I look for opportunities to serve anyone of my faith or not of my faith that I come into contact with. It makes me feel good.

Are Mormons Christians?

Brett
Yes. The official name of our church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We have faith in Jesus Christ, not anyone else. We don't worship the prophet. Just as the Israelites looked to Moses for guidance, we look to the prophet for guidance, but we worship God. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Brett
Having been one of those Mormon missionaries, I'll tell you what I talked about. I talked about The Book of Mormon and how it testifies of Jesus Christ. I talked about how we can come closer to Jesus by reading the book and following its teaching. I also taught how stronger faith in Jesus will help us strengthen our families and be happier. Why is family so important to Mormons?

Brett
Families are important to Mormons because we believe that relationships with our family do not end with death. We believe in an after life where we can live with our families again. This is why we focus so much on building strong families. Show more Show less
