Hi I'm Travis Canova

I'm a radiology resident and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am married to the most beautiful, amazing, and righteous woman in the Universe! Her name is Hayley. We are expecting our first baby in July! Being a valiant, loving, and kind husband and father is one of the biggest desires of my heart. Attaining eternal life with my family is too! I am enjoying this journey! I’m excited to have a house full of little ones to teach as the years pass. I’m a 4th year radiology resident and love the field I chose. It’s always exciting and allows me to serve many people each day. I love sports, currently basketball is what I play the most. I served an LDS Mission in Monterrey Mexico. You know, those guys walking around in white shirts, ties, and a black name tag! You’ve all seen them. Go talk to them next time you see them and your life will be blessed! I have 2 wonderful parents, 1 accomplished older brother, 5 beautiful little sisters and amazing in-laws; not to mention my incredible 26 nieces and nephews. I love my family with all my heart and thrive due to their love and support. I know I can live with them FOREVER if I continue to keep the commandments of God. We are all God’s children and He loves us. He wants us ALL to return to His presence. Jesus Christ has provided the way back home and if we follow Him we can be forgiven of our sins and overcome our imperfections. We simply have to choose what we want, then live for it. Easy as that. We choose whether we want to obey or disobey. No one can make that decision for us. I choose to obey!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that God has called a prophet again in these times! How amazing is that? As has been His pattern for the entire history of the Earth, God calls prophets like Adam, Noah, Moses, and Abraham to teach His children because He loves them and wants them to return to His presence someday. Authorized prophets of God teach us by word and deed how we must live and what we must know in order to return to Him. They teach us of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Despite our imperfections, if we come unto Christ in the way that He has commanded-through faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end-we can be cleansed, spotless before God. I know that in 1820 God called Joseph Smith to be His prophet, to be our prophet. The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is the fruit that God has given to show us that Joseph was indeed called of God. It is true and it will change your life in a miraculous way, for the better, as you apply its Christ-centered teachings into your everyday life. Best advice ever = Pick it up and read it! I have done it and have seen a constant stream of blessings in my life and the life of my family. Today the prophet of God is Thomas S. Monson. He is God's authorized earthly messenger. I have prayed and asked and the Holy Ghost has confirmed to me that these things are true. That is the key! You don't have to believe me, you don't have to believe your friends or your enemies, you don't have to believe any man on Earth. God wants us to ask Him if these things are true. He, our Father, will send an answer through the Holy Ghost, it is a still small voice which will pierce our very souls. That answer of peace, happiness, and conviction that guides you to the truth will be an anchor to your soul throughout your life! I invite you to sincerely pray and ask God if these things are true. Then pay close attention to your thoughts and feelings and you will receive YOUR OWN heavenly witness! Then act.

How I live my faith

One hour at a time! You can't merely be good day by day, you must strive to be good hour by hour. Decisions determine destiny. President Ezra Taft benson taught, "There is a power that flows into our lives when we read and study the scriptures on a daily basis that cannot be found in any other way. Daily prayer is another source of great power." I know that as I am consistent and diligent in doing the small and simple things which God requires (searching scriptures, pondering, and praying), I steadily gain more and more light, more power from on High to overcome each temptation and to withstand the difficult, yet refining trials that I encounter in my life. My favorite scripture helps me to always remember what the purpose of life is. In Abraham 3:25, God, while speaking to His Son Jesus Chirst, said, "And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them." That scripture is enough motivation for me as I continue on in my lifelong quest to be obedient unto the Lord!

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Travis Canova
Jesus Christ did, in fact, appear to the ancient inhabitants of North America after His crucifixion and resurrection. The God I know and love is a merciful and just God. His plan is perfect. And as part of that plan, He brought about another witness of Jesus Christ known as the Book of Mormon which was preserved to bring many people to the knowledge of the Gospel in the last days. In His own words from the Book of Mormon, He taught, "Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea even upon all the nations of the earth?" 2 Nephi 29 verse 7, Book of Mormon pg 110. It was not only essential for Christ to appear to the ancient inhabitants then, but their testimonies and witnesses are for our day today as well. Show more Show less

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Travis Canova
Tithing is used to move the work of God forward and to give God's children the privilege to hear the gospel and to worship the Lord. Some things that tithing goes toward are, 1. Printing Books of Mormon and other supplies for the missionaries to give to those interested in learning more about the church. 2. Building chapels to accommodate the growing worldwide church membership. 3. Building temples, which are also referred to as the House of the Lord, where we can reverently worship the Lord. If it assists God's children in learning of Him then it can probably come out of tithing funds. Show more Show less
