Hi I'm Doug

I'm an Idaho native. I'm an HR Director. I'm a husband. I'm a father of five (plus a lab). I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Human Resources Director for a large health insurance organization. I am a father of five 3 boys/2 girls and love my family. I love to ride motorcycles, snowmobile, lift weights and exercise, play racquetball, camp, be outdoors, and play with my black lab.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that was not active in the Mormon church, but which had good values. But even at a young age, I always believed in God. I remember watching a televangelist on TV one day who said, "If you want Jesus Christ to be your personal savior, pray to Him now and ask him to be." I remember crying on the couch as I let my heart reach out to Him. Later, I had a nephew leave a Christian comic book he had purchased at my house. I read it and saw a photo of the author inside the back cover who encouraged people to learn more about the "Word" by reading in the Bible in John. I began reading at night and hiding the Bible under my bed because I didn't know how my parents would react later I realized they would have been fine with it. I read the New Testament and most of the Old Testament. My older brother decided to start taking his family to Church on an Easter Sunday and asked if I wanted to go. I went and there gained a strong testimony of the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, His atonement for me, and knowledge of the Plan of Salvation. My testimony grew and was confirmed by the Holy Ghost as I felt the sweet Spirit confirming the truthfulness of what I was being taught each week. I went on to serve as a missionary in Switzerland and France and sharing what I had learned with others seeking to know Christ. I returned and married the love of my life and began our eternal family by being married in one of God's Holy Temples. My life has been wonderful and I am a better man, a better husband, and a better father because of my faith and the people with whom I associate. I encourage all who seek to better understand their Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to learn more by reviewing mormon.org, lds.org or contacting the missionaries to come teach the basic principles of the gospel.

How I live my faith

I love serving in the various volunteer callings/assignments in my church. I have served in Scouting, teaching, and leadership callings. I am currently called to serve in as a counselor in the ward (congregation's) Bishopric. Basically it is kind of like an assistant pastor. I support the Bishop (head pastor) is ministering to the needs of our congregation although I often gain way more myself as I try to help serve, uplift, and aid those in need. In my family, we have daily family and individual prayers (typically in the morning, at meals, and at bedtime). We also strive to have a weekly family home evening where we review our busy calendars, talk about gospel topics, sing and pray. We also read the scriptures together and talk about our thoughts and research questions together. We are truly blessed and feel the love our Savior and Father in Heaven in our lives. Understanding who we are, where we came from, and where we are going bring peace and happiness and we go through our mortal lives seeking to return to God.
