Hi I'm Dan and Haylee

We LOVE being outside... Sports, Hiking, camping or just seeing the sun

About Me

Falo Portuguese tambem!!! We got married in the Spokane Temple on August 19th 2010. Dan served a full time mission in Southern Brazil where he learned to speak fluent Portuguese and spent time learning not only more about the LDS church that he was serving for, but also learning to love the people in that part of the world. Growing up Dan has always loved to play any sport, he worked for a number of hay farmers in eastern Washington, and in the past few years has really started to love to BBQ.   Haylee has had the opportunity to travel through numerous countries with her family, including Ecuador, Canada, England, Scotland, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Italy, Vatican City, Switzerland and France. She has always enjoyed learning about other cultures, religions, languages, etc. and sharing her own beliefs and traditions with those she meets overseas. She plays the Celtic fiddle--it's probably her number one hobby. Together, we love to have adventures in the great outdoors, cook and bake new recipes, and watch Disney movies. Generally we just love spending time together.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up I Dan lived in a home that was pretty founded in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I remember being very young and learning in Sunday School about Christ and His church. However, as I entered my teenage years I decided to actually know for myself if the church that my parents go to is really true, or not. So I took a challenge and read the Book of Mormon by myself and prayed about it, I remember distinctly feeling it's truthfulness. I Haylee also grew up in a home centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ and I was baptized into the LDS church at age 8. The first time I read the Book of Mormon all the way through I believe I was 12 I decided to pray about whether it was true or not--I wanted to know for myself. As soon as I knelt down and began to pray to God, I felt a warm burning feeling surge through my body and a powerful confirmation that the Book of Mormon was indeed true. I know that this Book is another testament of Jesus Christ, along with the Bible, that He is my Savior and that He lives. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His restored church.

How I live my faith

In the church we try to be actively engaged. Even though we are both studying in college right now, we make sure to have time everyday for personal scripture study, of the Bible and the Book of Mormon. We also attend the church every Sunday in order to learn from others about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Haylee has a really cool opportunity to teach the 4-5 year olds in Sunday School. She loves it!

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Dan and Haylee
The Word of Wisdom is a kind of health code which members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints adhere to. We believe that God the Father and Jesus Christ created our bodies, and that they created them in their own likeness. We believe our physical bodies to be just as sacred as our spirits because they house our spirits. During the time that the church was being restored to the earth, the Prophet Joseph Smith received a revelation from God which consisted of direction and commandments that we are to live by to keep our bodies healthy and show gratitude to our Heavenly Father for this great gift. This revelation is the Word of Wisdom and can be found in the Doctrine and Covenants, section 89. These commandments to avoid substances or amounts of substances that can cause harm to our bodies come with promised blessings if we keep the commandments the Lord gave us in this revelation. For instance, we are promised that if we avoid drinking alcohol, putting any harmful drug into our body including caffeine, etc. that we will be blessed with a sharp mind and a body that can "run and not be weary and walk and not faint." Dan and I have striven to live the Word of Wisdom and we can strongly attest to how important it is to keep it and that the blessings the Lord has promised really do come if we live it right. For instance, Dan has had many severe injuries including 8 concussions and Haylee has some pretty serious stomach issues as well and, although pain is a natural part of having a physical and mortal body, we have seen great blessings in that our pain is not long-lasting and that we have been protected from further and even more serious bodily harm numerous times. We credit these great blessings to keeping the Word of Wisdom which truly keeps us safe and healthy. We are grateful for this doctrine because of the many blessings we have received from adhering to it. Show more Show less
