Hi I'm Deena

I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and RN. I care for a daughter with disabilities. I love my Savior. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up as a twin, in New Mexico, in a large and loving Mormon family. I graduated from college with my RN and a 5 week old baby. My husband and I have raised 8 children and enjoy our 21 grandchildren. We care for our oldest daughter who has severe disabilities. She has taught us and our children SO much. Our family has lived in Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Michigan, Florida, Chile, and Guatemala. We have loved every place we have lived. We have gathered friends and cherish the memories we made from those experiences. I love a little traveling, walking in the still morning with my husband, quiet serenity, noisy family gatherings, waking to birds singing in the quiet morning, new spring green and summers beautiful flowers, Indian summers and the crispness of fall, the first glistening snow of winter, the laughter of children, content wrinkled faces of the aged, driving in the countryside, watermelon, and chocolate. Our Family and the gospel of Jesus Christ are my main interests. I love family history and sharing stories of faith and character with our family. I have many interests (sewing, reading non fiction and historical novels, learning Spanish, journaling, organizing photos, studying the gospel, serving others, trying to keep up with technology, enjoying friends and family, connecting with those who are at a distance). I keep busy, but I want my time to be spent on something constructive. I need to feel productive and useful.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I value the legacy of faith given to me by my ancestors. My heritage includes those who were friends of Joseph Smith and bore witness of his role as a Prophet of God; those who sacrificed all to leave homelands, travel the seas, and cross the plains to join with the saints in the early days of the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. In their lives and mine, I can feel Heavenly Father's love and see his hand as we try to live by faith. He has a Plan for us and a sure path whereby we can return to Him having become more like him. I long for that Heavenly home. I know my Savior lives and leads and guides His church on the earth through living Prophets and Apostles. I LOVE being able to listen to their guidance and counsel every 6 months. By following this counsel, I feel peace, joy, and hope...because sometimes earth life is hard. I know the Book of Mormon is a 2nd witness of Jesus Christ, alongside the Bible. I feel a comfort and power when I read it. The most precious legacy I can leave my children and grandchildren is a continued witness by how I live...that these things are true. I love being a Mormon and knowing what I know.

How I live my faith

I have grown in faith by LEARNING through the Holy Ghost revealing truth...first from my parents as a child...then little by little through experiences...then by my own daily study and prayer. I live my faith by DOING. I have served in teaching gospel classes since I was 16. I have taught the children, the youth, and adult women. We are taught that every area of our service should focus on 'bringing others to Christ'. As I visit with neighbors...as I bring comfort to those who are experiencing challenge or heartache...as I share my experiences in turning to the Savior for help in times of need, I am trying to turn myself and others to Christ. I have lived my faith by serving two missions with my husband...guiding and loving many young missionaries in countries far from home. My nature is quiet and reserved and many of these experiences have been outside of my comfort zone. Many sacrifices were made. But I believe that when we are in the service of our God...wherever we go or whatever our circumstances, He has been there before us and will be 'on our right hand and on our left hand to bear us up'. I believe opposition is part of our Heavenly Father's Plan...not to impede us but to help us grow. Everyone has trials. Our family has experienced challenges (our daughters disability and health issues, loss of our home and business, death, pain, sorrow, etc). I believe our part of the Plan is to have FAITH in the Lord Jesus Christ...to turn to Him and Trust our Father in Heaven. Our faith leads us to LIVE His commandments so that we are worthy of being comforted and guided by the Holy Ghost. When we make mistakes we REPENT (or change) and turn again to Him with renewed trust. We do our best and carry on...in FAITH. Amazingly, the process brings strength and growth...as well as answers, hope, and compassion in helping others! It is a Plan of Happiness. I strive to live this plan with faith.
