Hi I'm John

I grew up in the Texas Hill Country, I love football. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Texas Hill Country for a majority of my life, cooking Barbeque and have a love of good 'ol Texas football which runs through this part of the country.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have found out through careful study and prayer that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and god speaks to all men, not just the prophets and apostles from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. He answers prayers and gives direction. And although I have a desire for careful research and study the things that the Gospel can bring to the table helps to see the purposes of God as a whole and how much he cares about all of us every day.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day by doing the little things that bring me closer to Jesus Christ. Its the small things like reading from the scriptures and saying my prayers that every day is like a drop in a bucket, from one day to the next it seems small but its grows and right now I am attending College that has singles activities that are a lot of fun.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

When we attend church we do not do it for the perception of others, we invite all to come in their "Sunday best" which may be shirts and ties for the men and modest dresses or skirts for the women. Wearing something that is clean helps us to remember to respect and honor the Sabbath day. We celebrate lots of holidays, but none are more important to us than Easter and Christmas as these two holidays celebrate the life of Jesus Christ and the things he has taught us and took upon himself for us. We also celebrate other regional and national holidays like Thanksgiving among others that helps us to come together as a family and remember the blessings that we have. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

The Priesthood is the authority to act in the name of God. The same priesthood that was held by the prophets of the Old Testament and Jesus Christ and the Apostles of the New Testament exists today in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Priesthood exists for the purpose of blessing all of the members, it is not meant to elevate one over another as all worthy, male members of the Church who have been prepared can receive the Priesthood. With the Priesthood ordinances can be done in God's name and be recognized both in Heaven and in Earth. Some of the ordinances deal with official church events such as becoming a member through Baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, while others examples are much more personal like giving blessings to people who are sick. God expects those who hold this sacred responsibility to live a Christ-like life and follow all of his commandments, and serve others with kindness and love just as Jesus Christ did while in his earthly mission.
