Hi I'm Catherine

I'm a graduate student, I'm an aspiring speech-language pathologist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am twenty two years old and a newcomer to the great state of Washington! I recently graduated from the University of Utah and I am currently working on my Master's Degree in Medical Speech-Language Pathology. I enjoy learning how I can help people communicate more effectively and efficiently in their day-to-day lives. I love all things basketball, being outdoors, and playing the piano. I am the oldest of three children, I have one younger sister and one younger brother. My parents and siblings are my absolute best friends. I love spending time with them and I am grateful for the things my parents have taught me, especially about the Gospel. Through going to church, reading scriptures, and praying together, we have become closer as a family as we can feel God's love and presence in our home.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in a loving home and raised in the church, but I didn't fully come to appreciate it until I was about fourteen years old. I began to have some difficult challenges in my life and I wondered what I truly believed. Through earnest prayer to Heavenly Father and a new perspective in my study of The Book of Mormon, I came to know God and my potential as a daughter of God. Since that time in my life, I have come to an even deeper knowledge of the reality of a God, my Heavenly Father, and our Savior, Jesus Christ. They live! They unconditionally love us! They know us personally! My Heavenly Father means so much to me. I know He carefully watches over my life and always provides loving guidance for me. I know Heavenly Father sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins and help provide a more excellent way for us to return to live with them someday. I know that through Christ's atonement, we can be made clean again and we can become better each day until we are made perfect in Him. I have come to know it is always through Christ I am strengthened and I am able to do all things, as it says in Philippians 4:13. I know that when I take time to truly study and ponder The Book of Mormon along with all scriptural text (Old Testament, New Testament, and Doctrine & Covenants), I feel and know it is the word of God, written for our times. The Book of Mormon is such a testament of God's love for us and I know The Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ and His mission.

How I live my faith

One of my favorite quotes from our living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, says, "Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved." I think it is of utmost importance to serve others and to show genuine respect and love for each person we come to know. We should never make people feel as though they are a project or less than their worth. Every single person has infinite worth and potential to do great things. Two years ago, I was called to serve and lead the women of a young single adult ward for eight months. It was an amazing experience to serve and feel of God's love for these women. Through this and many other experiences, I have come to know that no matter how busy life gets, we can always take the time to let someone know they are important and loved, to be a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. Throughout my life, my parents have taught me, through their examples, the importance of doing small and simple acts of kindness for those around us. You will never know what kind of an impact a simple smile or a kind word may have on someone. When we lose ourselves in service to others, we will find ourselves becoming more like the Savior and we will become closer to God.

What is the Relief Society?

Catherine
Relief Society is an organization for women that has been established to build faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and help those in need. Even though I have only been in Relief Society for two years, I have realized that I have talents and abilities to share so I can help others around me. When all sisters make visits to a couple sisters in Relief Society every month, we are able to care for each other and help each other with physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. The motto of Relief Society is "Charity Never Faileth" and I have seen that when women come together, their hearts filled with love and kindness, we can accomplish many amazing things.
