Hi I'm Josh

I'm a Mormon who grew up in Canada.

About Me

I live in beautiful, balmy Michigan. As you can see I have a beautiful family with 4 lovable and crazy children and a near perfect wife. I am a foot and ankle surgeon who went to school in Iowa and ended up training and staying here in Michigan. Both my wife and I are Canadian and have been in the US for about 8 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I am one of the lucky kids who grew up with a mother and a father who were members of the church. However like those of my parents who were converts early in their marriage, I needed to have the Holy Ghost bear witness to me that what I was trying to live up to was the correct path. I was 14 and had the choice of making ice hockey an all consuming lifestyle or continue playing it for fun while planning to go on a mission. It would have been extremely difficult to live gospel standards while not being able to attend church due to the hockey life. So I took some time and read the Book of Mormon. After finishing it I knelt in my room and following Moroni's advice prayed to know if it was true. As I prayed, nothing happened. I waited a little longer than decided that hockey it was when this feeling of love and warmth passed into my body. Words cannot do it justice but I knew that it was the Holy Ghost testifying to me that the Book of Mormon is another true testament of Jesus Christ. Since that time I have tried to live up to the values and teachings that have been taught to me. My life has been wonderfully blessed with the opportunity to go on a mission, get married in the temple for all time and eternity, and raise a family in the Gospel. I know that since that initial revelation from the Holy Ghost that my testimony has slowly been built up. I know President Thomas S. Monson is our prophet today and holds the keys to the kingdom of Heaven on Earth today.

How I live my faith

Currently I am responsible for the young men in our ward ages 12 through 17 and have the responsibility to help them learn how to live the gospel of Jesus Christ more fully. But most importantly I love to teach the gospel. I find that I learn and grow so much from preparing lessons and trying to obtain answers to prayers as well as revelation as to how to become a better disciple of Jesus Christ.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Josh
We can come to know our Father in Heaven through some simple ways. First is to have faith that you have a Heavenly Father "out there" who knows who you are and cares for you. I think of the scripture that lead Joseph Smith to pray in a grove of trees in James chapter 1, verses 5 and 6 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given unto him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering." If you don't know if He is there, then pray and ask. That is what Joseph Smith did and he had one of the great visions in the history of the earth. I know that if you pray to know, you will be given knowledge through the influence of the Holy Ghost. You will know that you have a loving, kind Father in Heaven who knows your strengths, weaknesses, desires, fears, thoughts, hopes and dreams and wants you to obtain those things that will bring you eternal happiness Show more Show less
