Hi I'm Colina

I'm a wife, a mother, a student. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to a wonderful man and we are the parents of six children; five boys and a girl. I am currently going back to school to finish my degree. I love music, reading, writing and playing silly boardgames. Some of my other hobbies include baking and making jewelry.

Why I am a Mormon

From the time I was very small, my parents taught me that God loved me and that I could take my concerns to him. They taught me to read the scriptures and pray. I am a Mormon because I prayed to know if this church was true and I felt the Holy Ghost confirm to me that it was. I am grateful that I know that my Heavenly Father knows me as an individual and that he loves me. I am not perfect but I know that because the Savior atoned for my sins that, when I make mistakes, I can repent and that He will help me become better. Every day that I trust in him and try to do his will, I can be better than I was the day before. I am grateful that I have the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life because it gives my life direction and purpose. I know that I am a child of God and that he has a plan for me. The gospel helps me teach my children that they can pray to the Lord and search in the scriptures and find help and answers when life throws challenges at them.

How I live my faith

We attend church as a family every Sunday. We also pray and study the scriptures daily, both individually and as a family.Getting 6 children of varying ages and attention spans to sit still long enough to pray or study can be challenging but the results are so worth it. We fight a lot less and there is a good feeling in our home. Until recently I worked with the children's classes on Sundays but now I help teach and organize meetings for the adult women in the congregation. I try to treat those around me the way the Savior would want me to.

What is faith?

Colina
Faith is believing and trusting in something that you cannot see or touch. Without faith, we cannot have the hope necessary to follow our Savior. For example, I know God is real and Jesus is my Savior but I do not see them from day to day. I see their influence in my life. When I pray and try to follow their counsel I have felt the Holy Ghost testifying that they are with me and that they love me. If I didn't have faith, following the commandments would just be an empty thing I did out of tradition--if I did I bothered to keep them at all. I have faith that if we keep the commandments and repent we can someday live with God. But just believing is not enough we also have to be willing to do what He asks of us. This can mean doing what He asks of us, even if what He asks of us does not make sense to us at the time. When we have faith and we do what the Lord asks of us, then the Lord is able to bless us more. We also are much better at recognizing the blessings the Lord provides for us everyday. Faith can be built a little bit at a time. Christ said in John 7:17 "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." We can experiment by following a commandment and if we are sincere the Lord will show us through the Holy Ghost that that commandment is true. We can grow our faith and learn for ourselves. The Lord encourages us to discover our faith and learn of Him. Show more Show less
