Hi I'm Ashley

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a junior in college studying pre-med and biology. I do research and I love it. I hope to get an M.D./Ph.D. so that I can be a doctor and do research. I love to play games and sports. I love to read. I have six younger siblings from different asian countries, and I love to learn about other places and also visit them as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon because Heavenly Father saved my life by sending me missionaries on campus. I grew up in a protestant church, and I was really strong in my faith. When I went to college I continued in my faith, but I felt like I was missing something. I read the Bible, prayed, went to Christian meetings and church, but I had a lot of questions I couldn't find answers to. I tried to trust God, but as my questions remained and no one had answers for me I soon became an atheist.. When I first met with missionaries they gave me a Book of Mormon, and I agreed to read it. When I met with the missionaries and read the Book of Mormon I felt something sweet. I felt this longing in my heart. I wanted to have what they had. I wanted to believe them and my spirit longed to commune with their God. At first I didn't pray when I read. I didn't want to talk to God. I was so angry with him, but after meeting with the missionaries a couple times a week my heart softened, and I felt God's presence so strong I couldn't deny it. I wanted that presence with me all that time, that peace, strength, love, and protection. I had changed drastically. I stopped doing stuff that I knew was bad without being asked to. I went to church and love it. I loved how it felt, the spirit was so strong. I loved learning. All of this hit my heart with so much power, and I knew then that I wanted to be baptized. This church has taught me so much. I have learned more about God in the last 10 months then I learned my whole life growing up. I know that Jesus loves us all, that he loved us so much to send us truth in this day and age through the prophet Joseph Smith and other modern day prophets. I know that Jesus would never lead me astray, and he has reconstructed my broken life. Everyday when I wake up I have hope now. I can wake up knowing I have a purpose and that I have a future with my loving Heavenly Father, and without that I wouldn't be the person I am today.

How I live my faith

Its so important for me to live out my faith, and although I don't do it perfectly I try my best. I am the only member of the Church in my immediate family, so I try my hardest to be a good example and love my family with all that I have in me. I love to volunteer. I tutor and volunteer at the hospital because I feel like this is what Jesus has asked us to do. He served and he was the greatest man to walk this earth, how much more should I serve others. I am also a teacher in the Church. I get to teach the gospel every month and it really challenges me being a new convert to make sure I really know what I'm talking about. I also do visiting teaching which is so important. Visiting teaching is a way for every member of the church to be cared for. I visit three people every month, it has been so awesome to get to know them and pray with them and help them with any needs they might have. No person should be forgotten or overlooked and that's why we have visiting teaching to make sure everyone is cared for and heard.
