Hi I'm Matt

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a Podiatrist and a father of 4 daughters. I was raised in a family of boys. I am the fourth son of 6 boys. My Mother and Father provided my brothers and I with love, encouragement and taught us to work hard. I'm a father of 4 daughters, which has brought a whole new perspective in life for me. My wife and I met our first year of college and have been married for over 20 years. I served a mission for the Church in Peru and made many great friends. We love to take trips as a Family. We have many fond memories of those times. We also love to spend time together watching a movie or playing games. Our home is filled with music. My wife and daughters play various instuments, like the piano, violin, and clarinet. I love to read a good book for fun. I love mysteries. My wife and I enjoy spending time together exercising. I also like to golf, fish, and hunt.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that is Mormon. Our family was very special. We always went to Church every Sunday. As a child, I loved going to primary and sunday school. We read the scriptures often and had Family Home Evening every Monday night. We spent time together and developed our family traditions and relationships. When I was 8 years old, I was ready to be baptized because I wanted to be a member of this Church because I had a testimony that it was true. I was baptized by my oldest brother. It was a very special day in my life that has put me on the path to follow my Savior, Jesus Christ. My feelings for my Savior and His gospel have continued to strengthen over the years. The teachings of the Savior are clear and sound to me. They bring me joy and happiness. I love my Savior and try to follow his teachings. I have often heard parents say "I wish that my children were born with some kind of manual". Well, I feel fortunate to see that the Lord has provided one. His teachings are the answer. They are found in the scriptures and the words of our modern day prophets and leaders. The Church has a wonderful little pamphlet called "For the Strength of Youth". I often read it with my daughters. Together we find guidance and answers to the complex problems the youth face today.

How I live my faith

I spend my time between work, family, church and recreation. In all that I do, I strive to live the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that others may know Him through me. In the Church we all have a roll in it. We all have the opportunity to serve each other in different callings. I love to fullfill my callings as best as I can. Currently, I spend my time in Church administration and teaching others. I have been able to grow in different ways through the years as each calling has taught me something and challenged me to improve myself. As a Father, I try to lead my family spiritually. We read the scriptures daily. We have Family Home Evening every Monday night. It is a wonderful time to sing, learn, and play games. We go to Church every Sunday, which helps us remember who we are, why we are here, and where we are going, and most of all how to get there. We have made it our standard to have family dinner all together every night. By doing this, we can have great conversations with our daughters.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

We are frequently called Mormons because we believe in the Book of Mormon. We also, believe in the Bible. Our Church is officially known as "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints". This was given as a revelation to Joseph Smith in 1838. It is the "Church of Jesus Christ" because He restored it on earth through Joseph Smith. It was organized in our days with a prophet and 12 apostles just as in Christ's day. Members of the church are referred to as Saints. To distinguish ourselves from the Saints in Christ's time, we are referred to as "Latter-day Saints". Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is found as a revelation in the 89th section of the Doctine and Covenants. It is a teaching that helps our mind and body stay healthy. It teaches us the proper things to eat and do as well as things to stay away from that may harm us. We recognize that we should not use addictive substances that may impair the health of our mind and body. Specifically, we are taught to avoid the use of tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea, and illegal drugs. As we follow this Word of Wisdom, God promises us great physical and spiritual blessings. People I am around all the time, usually ask me about this because I don't drink. I tell them that I follow a health code called the Word of Wisdom that God revealed. It has made all the difference to me and my health. Show more Show less
