Hi I'm Joe

I'm a Mormon, a writer, an actor and filmmaker.

About Me

I'm a writer, actor and filmmaker. I enjoy writing essays, screenplays, short stories and novellas. I also dabble in photography and enjoy being a maker, primarily designing and building DIY film equipment.

Why I am a Mormon

No other faith, creed or philosophy has stood up so well to my constant questioning. As an empirically minded person, I love that my faith invites and even challenges me to "experiment upon the word." I like to think that I've had three distinct conversions to Mormonism in my life. My first was a paper conversion when I joined the Church with my family when I was 9 years old. The second was my conversion to the Doctrine and the Church when I did a great deal of studying and reading of the scriptures and came to an understanding that the Church was true. Then there was my conversion to the Gospel which was a much more profound and personal experience for me and helped to put a lot of things into perspective for me.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by just loving my fellow man unconditionally. My friendships are very important to me and try very hard to be there for my friends and to be of service in general. It isn't easy and I don't always succeed, but I try my best.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

I didn't serve a full time mission but I did serve in the U.S. Navy for 5 years and that afforded me some interesting missionary opportunities including going on "splits" with the full-time missionaries in my community. Show more Show less
