Hi I'm Derek

I do tax law. I cook. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in a small town, but have spent the last 10 years in three of the biggest cities in the country. I enjoy city life and corporate tax planning. Nevertheless, I try to "stay in touch with my roots" by gardening, cooking, and baking bread. There is a unique satisfaction that comes from creating something with your own hands. I am a new dad, and I love holding my sweet little girl. My wife and I are excited to face the challenges that come with raising children.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew in a Latter-day Saint family - with some ancestors joining the Church way back in 1832! However, like almost every other Mormon, I have come to know the truth of this message for myself. I love that my faith teaches everyone to pray to know the truth - relying on God Himself, rather than on the wisdom of man. Also, knowing the answers to questions like "Why am I here?" and "What happens after this life?" gives me great peace.

How I live my faith

I try to serve others. Last year my wife and I worked as service missionaries at the Church's storehouse, helping people meet their temporal needs. Now I have an assignment to reach out to families in our area - both Mormons and those of other faiths. I love becoming acquainted with so many great people and sharing the message of the restored gospel. I also get to spend time time with those who are new to our faith. Their excitement to learn and live the gospel of Jesus Christ is inspiring.
