Hi I'm Suzy

I grew up just north of LA California, am a convert, gymnastics coach, vegan and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am an only child and grew up with 2 loving parents who are now divorced. I was in the Color Guard in high school and even marched Drum Corps where I was introduced to many worldly activities. I found the church through a boyfriend my senior year of high school and got baptized December 12, 2010. It has by far been the best decision I have ever made. I had the opportunity to serve a mission for the church in Tucson Arizona speaking spanish. Am now studying Exercise and Wellness at BYU hoping to continue onto grad school soon all while coaching competitive gymnastics .

Why I am a Mormon

My conversion started in Hawaii when I started to notice just how much happier my Mormon friends were. Then I started dating one boy who was Mormon and he invited me to church. My first time there I loved it (even if I did show up half an hour late) everyone was so nice to me and it felt like home. It took the missionaries a while before they visited me but when they did I couldn't wait to learn more. I took the lessons and began to pray about if the church was true. It took a while to get an answer and I wanted it so bad so one night I knelt down and prayed for a good half hour maybe even longer just asking is this true, is the Book of Mormon true and is the church true. Well after all that and not feeling like I got an answer I said Amen and climbed into bed, thats when this amazing sense of calm and peace and almost chills came and I felt myself think yes it is true. Not far after I set a baptism date, but since I was under 18 I needed parent permission and my father wouldn't give it. So I waited 6 months until I could finally get baptized. I turned 18 but had been not going to one ward consistently so I had to pick one and settle down. I chose to go to the Young Single Adults ward because I didn't like going to the family wards all by myself. I was then baptized on December 12 2010. Then Confirmed on the 19th and receiving the Holy Ghost has been such a blessing in my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday through trying to keep the two greatest commandments of loving the Lord my God and loving my neighbor. Im of course never perfect, but I try and thats what counts. I love to watch videos on mormonchannel.org, praying, attending the temple, and diving into the scriptures.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Suzy
This is very personal and special idea for me since I am the only member of my family. I know that only though baptism can we be clean and that is how we take upon us the name of Jesus Christ. Just because my prior family didn't have the chance to get baptized on the earth shouldn't disqualify them from the blessings they can receive. I like knowing that they still can chose if they want to accept the work themselves. Just because I was baptized for my grandmother doesn't mean that she is automatically a member of the church but she does get to chose and that makes me happy to know that she has the option.
