Hi I'm Tyler

I grew up in Las Vegas. I play baseball and currently am a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and then moved out to a town 45 minutes east called Overton for high school. Currently I am a missionary in the New York Utica Mission and I am loving every minute of it. There is no better thing that I could be doing with my life right now. In my spare time I am a sports fanatic and I have played baseball for my whole life. After I get done serving the Lord here in New York, I plan to pursue my career of being a physical therapist.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have come to know by the power of the Holy Ghost that this is Christ's True Church that has been Restored to the earth. I was raised in the church but there is a time in EVERYONE'S life where they have to become truly converted to the religion that they decide to practice. As I have been out on my mission I have noticed that there are amazing people in other religions, but they seem to be lacking the true happiness that comes from having their deepest questions answered. This happiness comes because of the Restoration of the Gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I am so thankful that I know where I came from, what my purpose in life is, and where I will be going after I pass on.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing everything that I can to increase my testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Some of these things involve reading the scriptures especially the Book of Mormon each day, attending church each week, praying each day and looking for ways to serve my fellow brothers and sisters. As we develop this charity which is the "pure love of Christ", we look for ways to share the Gospel with them. I am fortunate enough to be doing this full time for 2 years! I can truly testify that being a member of the church has helped me tremendously in looking for ways to strengthen my faith.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Tyler
Being a missionary, this principle is something that I am very familiar with. The reason that we go out and contact people on the streets and in their homes is simply because that is what Christ instructed his apostles to do. "Go ye therefore and teach ALL nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you, alway, even unto the end of the world Matthew 28 verses 19-20." We simply have this strong desire to go out and talk to everyone because we know that our message is true and that it will bless people so much.  Show more Show less

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Tyler
No, we are strongly encouraged to serve missions, but there is no consequence for not serving one. As a holder of the Priesthood, it is our duty, but we all still have our agency to choose what we want to do in life. I have many friends who have not served missions or have decided that they don't want to serve one. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Tyler
Of course Mormons are Christians, hence the name "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." We believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior and that he atoned for our sins. We do everything that we can to follow the example that Christ demonstrated while he was here on the earth. Modeling our lives after his example truly brings happiness in our lives. That is why missionaries go out and share the message that Jesus Christ has shown his love for us again by Restoring His Gospel to the earth.  Show more Show less

What is faith?

Tyler
Faith as defined in the scriptures is "having a hope for things which are not seen, which are true. Alma chapter 32 verse 21" Faith is the first principle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ because if you do not have faith in something, then you will not be motivated. Faith is a principle of action and power. As we look for ways to increase our faith, our desire to follow the true teachings of Jesus Christ as close as we can increases. Faith leads to repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end.   Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Tyler
The reason that the family is so important to us, is because it is the most important social unit in time and in eternity. The family unit is so critical in today's world, and it seems like people are trying to tear down from the foundation of the family. One thing that our church focuses on, is that we believe that we can be together with our families forever. How thankful I am to know that, because if God truly loved us, why would he take away one of the things that makes us the most happy? The Gospel of Jesus Christ, when applied to the family, can strengthen and protect kids and parents in the world that we live in today.  Show more Show less
