Hi I'm Michael

I love life. I am pretty enthusiastic about it. I speak some mean Chinese, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I love living. Life is so much fun, and I'm especially grateful when I can lay my head on the pillow knowing I did hard things that day. I am interested in helping the world use energy more efficiently. Also economics and politics in general. One day I will be a senator. Hopefully. I have some beatboxing skills as well. I'm a graduate student studying international relations. I run, bicycle, read. Life is to be enjoyed. Life is a test. I am happy to share the things I have come to believe and even know are true, and nothing is more exciting to me than the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm still a Mormon because I have asked God if He wants me to go somewhere else, and He's never said yes. I've asked Him if the Book of Mormon isn't true, and He's never said no. I've tried repenting, and it worked. I've asked God after a serious study and pondering of the gospel whether it is the truth He wants me to seek, and I feel the answer He has given me is that this church is indeed the Lord's restored Christian church on the earth today. I know this by personal experiences with the Holy Ghost. Honestly, I have experienced so many instances where my faith in God was confirmed after a period of uncertainty. I am a Mormon because I enjoy being a member of this faith. Here I find people who are committed to emulating the Perfect Man Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because I don't know where else I would go to find a group of people all striving to live according to the teachings of past and present messengers of God. If I wasn't Mormon, I think many of the spiritual experiences I have had in life would be less informed and meaningful to me. Mormonism has provided a framework through which I can understand my relationship with God in a way that I find personally satisfying and motivating to an inexpressible degree. And, I think without the steadying principles I have learned by my active efforts in this faith, I fear that I would miss out on many transcendental and sublime instances of closeness to God and understanding of my life purpose. Mormonism helps me to understand that following Christ is not just about being a good person or avoiding evil, but rather it is a process of personal progression and true inner change. My faith has helped me to embrace a life of turning outward towards others and relying on the Atonement of Christ not just to feel good, but also to become better. I am a Mormon for many reasons, but ultimately, deep down, in my innermost conscience I am a Mormon because I feel it is what God wants me to be. And how could I deny that?

How I live my faith

My faith is to live a life of service. I have found that being really happy means living for the happiness of others. It is reaching out to others and remembering that it's more important to be the supporting actor in the plays of many others rather than the main actor in my own. It is to do what's right because it is the right thing to do, and for no other reason. It's to smile and pray and try to be like Jesus Christ, relying on His grace to make up the difference as I do all that I can do to serve Him. It is learning what the Savior really taught, and then really doing it. That is faith to me.
