Hi I'm Andy

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student studying Russian, and I work at a local performing arts theater. I got married in 2009 and my wife and I are expecting a baby boy in a few months! When I'm not studying, working, or getting ready for the baby, I like reading books and watching movies with my wife. Right now I'm working my way through Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace.

Why I am a Mormon

My goal in life is to be happy and the best way I've found to be happy is by living the principles taught in the Book of Mormon. As I continue studying the Book of Mormon and applying what it teaches, my life is becoming happier and more and more meaningful. One of my favorite things about the Book of Mormon is that it applies to everyone. God loves all of His children, so He has made a way for anyone to find out whether or not the Book of Mormon is true. All you have to do is read some of the book then ask God, through prayer, whether or not it is true. I have prayed and asked whether or not it is true, and, like millions of other Mormons around the world, have gotten the answer that it is true. Because of that knowledge, I have motivation to continue reading and applying the Book of Mormon to my life, and my life keeps getting better.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to live according up to the example of Jesus Christ. In the New Testament, the Apostle Luke wrote that Christ "went about doing good." One of the key tenets of Christ's teaching was helping others, so everyday I try to help someone. I try to do simple things that will make others happier, like visiting and befriending other families in my apartment complex, calling old friends and catching up, donating money to charity, or sharing Christ's teachings with others. It doesn't take too much of my time or money, but it makes me happy as I help others find happiness.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon, like the Bible, is scripture, or the word of God. Like the Bible, it was written by prophets and apostles, who were called by God to teach God's children what they need to do to return to Him. Just like the Old Testament and the New Testament, the Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Unlike the Bible, it was written on the American continent by prophets who lived from 600 BC to AD 400. The crowning moment of the Book of Mormon is when Jesus Christ visited and taught the people living on the American continent after he lived in Jerusalem and was resurrected. The Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that is, everything we need to do to live happily and be able to return to live with God again. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

We believe that the purpose of life is to find lasting happiness. This doesn't necessarily mean going out and having fun, but it means developing lasting relationships with friends and family and helping those in need. Happiness is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. As we study the Book of Mormon and other scripture, we learn what Christ taught, and as we apply His teachings in our lives, we begin to understand what lasting happiness feels like and how to achieve it.  Show more Show less
