Hi I'm Amanda

I grew up in Ohio, then moved to Alaska when I was 18. I'm a geologist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a runner, skier, swimmer, hunter, backpacker, wife, geologist, and an Alaskan. Being in God's creation is my passion, it is beautiful even at 40 below!

Why I am a Mormon

When I moved away from home at 18, I was living on faith alone. I had prayed to know where to go to for college, and ended up 4,000 miles away from my family and friends. I came to Alaska where I knew nobody, had no connections, and I was completely on my own. Almost! I was raised protestant, and knew that my Heavenly Father loved me, cared for me deeply, and no matter what He would protect me. No matter how far away from home I went. I did not know much about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, only what a friend at summer camp had told me when I was in high school. I was not really looking to become LDS when I moved away, but I was looking for a church home. I prayed and fasted to be led to the right place, and then boom! I went to a singles branch with a friend from class, and felt so welcome there. So I prayed about it. I had an impression that this was the place for me. I was soon baptized and met my wonderful husband, a man that I could have only dreamed about! The whole experience has been a blessing in my life. I find that I am closer to my family, even if we do not always agree, and more than anything I find that I am happier than I can ever remember, and closer to my Savior! I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior, and that He loves me and wants the very best for me. I know that he knows each and every one of his children and wants the best for them, and that we can be made spotless from our past sins, by having faith in Him! What a wonderful gift! That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Each day I wake up in the morning and pray to my Heavenly Father that he would direct my path, and show me how I can grow closer to Him, and be able to live my life in a way that shows that I am a daughter of God. I go to my classes, labs, and interact with all of my friends, knowing that I will be doing something great. It is a wonderful feeling to know that I can share the love of Christ just by visiting with a friend. In my ward I spend my time working with the 18 month to 3 year olds. It is a neat experience to work with such sweet children, and watch them grow. My favorite part is listening to them when they are looking at books or coloring pictures saying "that is my Jesus". How sweet! They know that Christ loves them at such a young age and want everyone in the room to know. That is how I try to live each minute of my day, knowing that Christ loves me, and that I can show his love by being kind to others and helping them.
