Hi I'm Derek

I am a husband & father to six children. I love sports and playing games with the family. I'm a computer nerd. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have 6 children with my first grandchild on the way and am married to an absolutely wonderful woman for almost 25 years. I met her while going to school, she was from Lousiana and I was from Oregon. We always wanted a big family. She worked while I was going to school after we got married. Now, it's her turn. She is going back to school to get her nursing degree. I am a training manager at an oil company. I love college football and basketball and watching NASCAR. A bad day of golf, is still fun.

Why I am a Mormon

My family is the most important part of my life. The family unit is the central part of our Heavenly Father's plan. I know that through faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to the commandments given us, my family can be together not just in this life, but forever. The gospel of Jesus Christ gives me guidance and proper perspective in my life. It is wonderful to feel His love and His spirit guiding me in my life. I know Jesus Christ is my Savior and His Atonement is for all. I grew up in the church and have always believed in the teachings, but I needed to know for sure. When I prayed, I specifically asked for answers. I asked if the Book of Mormon was true, if there was a prophet today, if God loved me, what is my purpose her on earth, personal questions. I recieved answers. It wasn't a voice, someone verbally saying it, it was feelings I had in my heart and the thoughts that came to me in my head. Feelings of comfort, love and peace. I know that this church is true and if you pray to God for an answer, he will respond to you. Try it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to set a positive example to my friends, co-workers and family. I have served as a youth leader, a leader to men around my own age and even a nursery worker! My family reads scriptures daily (most of the time), and we say family prayers. We go to church every Sunday and worship the Savior.
