Hi I'm Marissa

I'm a proud Navy wife, mom to an angel baby, and California native. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I surprised myself when I fell in love with a military man and married him a short time later. Life is not always easy as a military couple, and deployments seem to last forever, but our faith in Jesus Christ keeps us united when we are apart. To help ease some of the pain of separation, I got a job working with military families in their family support center. Not only do I get to put my bachelors degree in family science to good use, but I get to help families just like mine every day. I think it is the best job in the world. When we are not working we love to explore the world around us. We love to try new foods and visit new places. And on days when we are feeling a little tired, we love to stay in and watch movies. We hope to be able to welcome children into our home in the near future, and though we have run into some challenges with that, we have faith that we will someday receive that blessing.

Why I am a Mormon

I cannot find another source that offers me more hope and peace than the gospel of Jesus Christ has. Life is hard, being human is hard, and challenges are presented every day. Through faith in my Heavenly Father and in His son, Jesus Christ, and the teachings of His church, I have been able to face life's challenges with confidence and assurance of blessings to come. I have seen the power of Christ's atonement work wonders in my home to heal and soften hearts. Faith in my Heavenly Father and in Jesus Christ keeps my marriage solid, and our faith and a commitment to eternal marriage is what holds us together when we are oceans apart. Our faith has offered us peace in troubled times and has allowed us to see the small miracles in life. I am so thankful every day to know what I know and for my membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in every word and every deed. I often participate in community service events, especially if they involve the military. I show up to offer support to our troops and their families who I have grown to love deeply over the past few years. I also have been involved in organizing interfaith events in my city as part of my area(ward) missionary calling. I have loved getting to share my faith with others as I learn more about theirs. I find that we are all more alike than we think, and have so much to offer each other.

What do Mormons believe about family?

We believe that the family is a key part of our Heavenly Father's plan for His children. Our families are important and should be nurtured and watched over. Some of the our greatest learning experiences happen within the walls of our own home. When we are keeping the commandments and following Christ's teachings our homes will be places of peace and refuge. We can be assured that death is not the end, and our family relationships will last beyond this life into eternity. One of the greatest blessings we have been given is the ability to be with those we love forever. Show more Show less
