Hi I'm Marcia

Yes, there are American Born African Americans who are Mormon!

About Me

I am a mother of 5 with 8 grandchildren and expecting two more this year. One of those I already know is a boy, so I'm very excited to have another boy in the family. We have lots of girls! I love to read although lately I haven't had time to read anything secular. Most of my reading has been the Church Magazine --the Ensign or my scriptures. I love movies, particularly action movies and some comedies. I don't like girlie love stories. I am a sports fan, especially football, but will watch basketball in the off season, golf, and tennis. I also love watching the Olympics track and field. I love the youth, particularly the teenagers. They keep me abreast of what's going on in their world, so that when needed I can relate to them. They also keep me young--whether it be the new slang kids are using, music they're listening to or new dance. I love to help others, although sometimes I like to be with myself to do nothing--maybe just think.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is indeed the Lord's church. It has been restored in these last days with the same priesthood keys and organization as the church was when Christ originally set it up. I am a Mormon because I know no other way to be that will bring me the joy and peace that I have. I am Mormon because I know that I am an eternal being and that I existed before this earth and will exist way beyond this earth. I am Mormon because the Book of Mormon is the word of God and it contains truths that I need to heed if I want to become as my Father and elder brother Jesus Christ are--as Christ has said, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as I and my Father are perfect". I am Mormon because I know this is where the Lord would have me serve during my time here in mortality. I am Mormon because it is the way back to my home with my Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be the very best person that I can be. Like every other human being, I have flaws--I'm not perfect contrary to popular belief lol. I try to keep the Lord's commandments and when I fall, I always get back up and keep moving forward because I know that this is a process and that the Lord has to do more molding and refining me before I can become what He wants me to become. I try to be a good example at work, church or whereever I am and even though sometimes, many times I fall short of what I know is right, I know that my Father loves me and that because of Jesus Christ I can be forgiven. I love being a visiting teacher. It gives me the opportunity to get to know other sisters who believe and know what I believe and know. It's wonderfutl to be able to serve these sisters in any way that I can to help them draw closer to the Lord. I am the chorister and I love being able to watch the members of the congregation during this time--to see whose not there, or to see parents with their children and sometimes to get a smile when I find someone sleeping. I am also the Single Adult Rep- which makes me responsible for the single adults from age 30 and up. I make sure that they know of activities planned for us such as firesides and conferences. I love being able to work in the Lord's kingdom here on earth, to help shepard His children. Hopefully, my offering is pleasing to Him. I love to go to the temple and serve those who've gone on before without the blessings of the gospel. I am currently preparing names from my ancestry to take to the temple and perform the necessary covenants in their behalf. I know that many, if not all of my ancestors are waiting for me to get busy with performing the saving ordinances for them--baptism, confirmation, endowment and sealing. I know that families can be together forever and I want so much for my all members of my family to have that opportunity. Family is very important to me and by searching for my ancestors and standing in their place to be blessed for them is an awesome task but one I look forward to accomplishing.
