Hi I'm Jeremey

I love sports, running, playing games and my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm originally from Idaho. I've also lived in Utah, Iowa & Spain. I currently live in Texas. I love playing sports, watching sports, coaching sports. I especially love to run. I love playing any kind of game. I am a husband and father of 3 young boys. I have a BA in Spanish and an MBA in Finance/Accounting.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are members so I grew up a member, but when I hit the teenage years it became important for me to find out whether I really believed it. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed to God to know. The spirit bore witness to me that it is true and so I have continued a Mormon ever since and I am so glad that I have as it has brought me so much happiness in my life.

How I live my faith

I try to live my life in a way that would please my Heavenly Father. I pray and study the scriptures to grow closer to God. I use clean language and help others. I take good care of my body and don't take harmful substances that would damage my body (and my spirit). I pay 10% of my income in tithing to the Lord and fast once a month and give money to be used for those in need. I seek forgiveness when I make mistakes and try to be a good Husband, Father, Employee, and Friend.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Jeremey
No. We all choose for ourselves. Our current Prophet, Thomas S. Monson, encourages all young men (usually when 19) to serve a two year mission and welcomes the service of young women (usually when 21). Just like anything. Each individual has the right and responsibility to choose for themselves. I chose to serve a mission and spent 2 years in Spain. It was one of the best decisions in my life. It was an incredible experience!! Show more Show less

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Jeremey
The Lord allowed polygamy to be practiced in the early days (just as he allowed it in various other times during the Bible) to rise up a righteous people to him. The early church members had just been driven from their homes and killed and many more died crossing the plains. Often it was used to take care of widows (ie your brother's wife died and you would take them to wife as well). It was practiced for a short period in the early 1830s & 1840's and has not been allowed since. Any groups practicing polygamy today are not members of the Church. They are groups that branched off from the church when the Church banned Polygamy back then. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Jeremey
We believe that he is the Father of our Spirits. That he created us in his image (just like our own children look like us) and that he has a body of flesh & bones just as we do (only perfected). Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Jeremey
It is a Law of Health that was given by the Lord in 1833 through the Prophet Joseph Smith to help us maintain healthy bodies, minds and spirits. It forbids the use of tobacco, alcohol, and tea (herbal tea okay) as they are harmful. It urges healthy eating such as grains, fruits and vegetables. Although all of this is common sense now days, in 1833 little was known about the affects of tobacco and alcohol etc. Living the Word of Wisdom has helped me to have a healthy body free from addictions and to be happy! What is the Law of Chastity?

Jeremey
The Law of Chastity relates to sexual morality. We believe in maintaining complete virginity before marriage and only sexual relations with your spouse of the opposite gender to whom you are legally married to. It also means avoiding pornography. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Jeremey
While Jesus was on earth he established his Church and called 12 Apostles, but after Christ's death, the people became wicked and one by one the apostles were killed and the priesthood authority was lost from the earth. The Earth was thrust into what has been termed the Dark Ages. The Bible was translated various times and some of the plain and precious truths were changed or confused over time. Joseph Smith was called as a Prophet to restore the Priesthood Authority and the same organization with 12 Apostles that Jesus Christ himself had established when on the Earth. He also brought forth other ancient scripture which is called the Book of Mormon which acts as a 2nd Witness of Jesus Christ and helps clear up the confusion that sometimes exists with the Bible. Are Mormons Christians?

Jeremey
Yes, we are! We believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior. That he died for our sins (called the Atonement) and that he was Resurrected on the 3rd day and that because of his Atonement and Resurrection we can be forgiven of our sins and return and live with Our Heavenly Father and with Jesus Christ again and that all of us too will be Resurrected. What is the priesthood?

Jeremey
It is the authority of God to act in his name. It is given to all male members and is received by the laying on of hands by one who already holds the Priesthood. It is used to serve and bless others such as give blessings, prepare and pass the sacrament, and serve. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

Jeremey
The family is so important to us. It is one of the main purposes of life. We were placed in a family to help us through our Life's Journey. The Family is the basic unit of society and it is the responsibility of parents to teach their children the gospel. The most joy and happiness can be found in the family especially when based on the principles of the gospel. Because of the importance of families to us we often have larger families than the average family. Show more Show less

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Jeremey
In short, the Lord chooses the Prophet. When the current Prophet dies, the most Senior Twelve Apostle (that has been apostle the longest) becomes the next Prophet. Thus there is no voting or lobbying etc and the Lord controls who becomes Prophet. If he doesn't want someone to be the Prophet they will not live long enough to become the Senior Apostle. What is a ward/stake/branch?

Jeremey
A "ward" is a congregation of church members. The ward is based on geographical boundaries. A "branch" is like a "ward" only is a smaller congregation. A "Stake" is comprised of several wards (usually between 8 & 16) and is also based on geography. Show more Show less

What is the difference between attending church and the temple?

Jeremey
Our Churches are where we go to attend our weekly Sunday Meetings and our social activities during the week. The Temple is a special building that is only used for performing sacred ordinances such as Baptisms for the Dead, Marriage Sealings (husband and wife being married for eternity and not just until "death do us part") etc. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Jeremey
We believe that everyone will have the chance to hear the full gospel of Jesus Christ. Not everyone has that chance while they are on Earth. Many people have lived and died without knowing of Jesus Christ. They will have the opportunity to be taught the gospel and accept it in the Spirit world after they die. We must all be baptized but it wouldn't be fair to those who haven't had the opportunity. So we are baptized in their name vicariously for them since they no longer are able to physically be baptized themselves thus fulfilling the commandment for the dead person that we all be baptized.
